pure m-stalline polymethylene derivatives containing up to five<br />

p-f-re-ol nuclei. ' The dimethylol derivatives of the di- and tri-nudear<br />

compound? were prepared by alkaline condensation of the corresponding<br />

phenol? with <strong>formaldehyde</strong>, using added methanol as a subsidiary reaction<br />
