In fact, there’s little the company can’t do if called upon. “We know race cars,” states project engineer Richard Tur. “Whether it’s chassis, suspension, steering, engine, gearbox or transmission components, we have the capability and experience to engineer and manufacture high-performance solutions.” The success Tork has enjoyed with race teams has led to opportunities with major road car manufacturers. Two years ago, Bouhier presented an innovative design for a limited-slip differential – known as the Motricité Renforcée – to PSA Peugeot Citroen. Interest from the automotive giant led to the development of prototypes for special road cars produced by PSA Peugeot Citroen and Renault. These days, Tork manufactures up to 1 000 limited-slip differentials a month. CNC MACHINING EUROPE Flexible Machine Shop The combination of complex, small-batch components for racing teams and higher-volume orders for road cars demands both highly flexible and highly capable machine tools. That, Tur claims, is one of the reasons why the machining department at Tork’s spacious workshop facility is populated with a number of U.S.-built Haas CNC machine tools, supplied by the local Haas Factory Outlet – a division of Salbris-based Tech.Mo. “Our experience in the motorsport industry has taught us to be pragmatic, and to seek solutions that meet our requirements exactly,” says Bouhier. “It was this principal that steered us toward choosing Haas machine tools, even though the market choice is vast.” It was apparent to Bouhier that Tork and Haas shared a similar manufacturing philosophy, one based on specification, simplicity, reliability and low cost. “All of these are important criteria in the motorsport industry,” says Bouhier, “and it is clear they are important to Haas, too.”
