1 institutional censorship or discipline. They should at all times make every effort to be accurate,<br />
2 exercise appropriate restraint, show respect for the opinions of others and indicate that they are not<br />
3 an institutional spokesperson.<br />
4 D. The above shall be construed to mean that no limitations shall be p1aeed upon<br />
5 study, investigation, presenting and interpreting facts and ideas concerning human society, the<br />
6 physical and biological world and other branches ofleaming subject to accepted standards of<br />
7 professional responsibility. The right to academic freedom herein established shall include the<br />
8 right to support or oppose political causes and issues as long as that recognized right shall not be<br />
9 brought to bear on regular instructional activities.<br />
10 E. As a component of academic freedom, members are responsible for decisions<br />
11 regarding the classroom instruction of students, in accordance with department procedures.<br />
12 F. No member shall have his/her instruction or lab viewed or recorded<br />
13 electronically by the Employer with any video or sound equipment without reasonable advance<br />
14 notification from the Employer, typically no less than twenty-four (24) hours.<br />
15 7.5 Department Procedures<br />
16 A. To involve members in the decision-making process regarding matters of<br />
17 depruimental concern, department heads shall provide not less than thirty (30) calendar days for<br />
18 department member input before the following:<br />
19 1. Forwarding a new course or curriculum to the dean or next level of<br />
20 course/curricular review;<br />
21 2. Forwarding a revision of an existing course or curriculum to the dean<br />
22 or next level of course/curricular review;<br />
23 3. Submission of the department's course schedule and proposed teaching<br />
24 assignments to the deru1;<br />

Submission of armual department budget request; or<br />
Any other matters which the department head and the members agree<br />
28 B. If the department head must take action in less than thirty (30) days or learns<br />
29 of the need to take action such that it is impracticable to provide thirty (30) days written notice,<br />
30 he/she shall provide the opportunity for input as soon as reasonably practicable.<br />
31 1. Failure to provide such opportunity shall not be the basis for either<br />
32 delay of such action or for overturning such action.<br />
33 2. When less than thirty (30) days written notice is given, the member<br />
34 may respond directly to the dean/provost/vice president for Academic Affairs.<br />
35 C. Before the Employer makes a final decision in the hiring of a department<br />
36 head or program director, department members will be offered an opportunity to:<br />
