If more than 2 items of the above need to be updated durind the machine’s<br />
life, a new homologation will be necessary<br />
1.5.1 Update specifications<br />
The <strong>FIM</strong> can grant a parts and product update differing from above rule,<br />
purely for the scope of production cost saving provided that following<br />
provisions are kept:<br />
• Crankcase is not lighter* than the original homologated unit and the<br />
positions of crankshaft, gearbox, frame attachments, main shafts and<br />
position of cylinders remains unchanged (*apart casting method for<br />
mass production).<br />
• Cylinder(s) have same inner geometrical dimensions including sleeve<br />
and are no lighter than the original unit<br />
• Cylinder head: combustion chamber shape and volume, valve and<br />
camshaft locations as well as intake and exhaust ports locations and<br />
shape remain unchanged<br />
• Crankshaft: same stroke and not lighter than original homologated<br />
unit<br />
• Connecting rods: same base material (i.e. steel) and not lighter then<br />
original homologated unit<br />
If more than 2 items of the above need to be updated during the machine’s<br />
life, a new homologation will be necessary.<br />
1.5.2 HOMOLOGATION OF PARTS AND PRODUCT UPDATE<br />
• Product updates on parts other than those stated in Article 1.5, such as<br />
the fairing or wheels require a homologation update.<br />
• The manufacturer must send a notice to the <strong>FIM</strong> CTI Secretariat<br />
requesting for a homologation update not later than 30 days before the<br />
first race in which the model containing new parts will compete.<br />
• With the formal notice, the manufacturer is required to send the 1,<br />
2 and 3 homologation forms, together with all relating documentation<br />
about the parts and product update (the drawings of the old and<br />
new products/parts, etc.) including a statement with the VIN-Number<br />
pertinent to the updated parts and product, to the <strong>FIM</strong> CTI Secretariat,<br />
both in paper and electronic form.<br />
