Simulati<strong>on</strong> and Reporting<br />
Full simulati<strong>on</strong> of a nest will give <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
programmer detailed informati<strong>on</strong> about how a<br />
job will run at<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g>. A<br />
full range of<br />
reporting<br />
opti<strong>on</strong>s will<br />
offer <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
programmer and<br />
operator ample<br />
informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong><br />
how to set up <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g>. The following are<br />
some items l<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ted within a report:<br />
Tooling in a single nest or a run of nests<br />
Nest layout<br />
Part informati<strong>on</strong><br />
Time estimati<strong>on</strong> per sheet<br />
Key Features<br />
The following <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a descripti<strong>on</strong> of a few<br />
features <str<strong>on</strong>g>that</str<strong>on</strong>g> help obtain <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> high levels of<br />
automati<strong>on</strong> within NC Express.<br />
Teach Cycles<br />
Teach Cycles allow <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ability to teach<br />
tooling or cycled functi<strong>on</strong>s/routines to a specific<br />
geometry. A Teach Cycle <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> applied when<br />
Autotool <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> in operati<strong>on</strong>. Teach Cycle works off<br />
a given tolerance, material thickness, and<br />
symmetry type. If geometry ex<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts <str<strong>on</strong>g>that</str<strong>on</strong>g> has a<br />
Teach Cycle libraried, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same pattern or<br />
tooling will be applied. The use of Teach Cycle<br />
can vary with <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g> type.<br />
A Teach<br />
Cycle <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> created<br />
to apply a cycled<br />
order of hits for<br />
a round punch –<br />
extrusi<strong>on</strong> – and<br />
a tap (right).<br />
Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> cycle will<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g><strong>on</strong>ly</str<strong>on</strong>g> be used <strong>on</strong><br />
material thickness 0.5-1.5 mm. The tolerance <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
0.03 mm for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> hole sizes. When a part <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
Autotooled with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same type of geometry, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
same tooling in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same order will be applied<br />
throughout <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> part. Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> eliminates <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
repetitive task of having to place each of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
tool hits for each hole <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> part.<br />
Automatic Form Avoidance<br />
During punching process, NC Express<br />
knows when a form ex<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts within a nest to avoid<br />
smashing <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> form by a n<strong>on</strong>-form tool. Form<br />
protecti<strong>on</strong> areas can be set for a special tool to<br />
inform NC Express<br />
of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> formed area<br />
<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> nest. If a<br />
n<strong>on</strong>-form tool will<br />
cross <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> path of a<br />
formed area within<br />
a nest, NC Express<br />
will optimize <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
tool path so <str<strong>on</strong>g>that</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ram will completely ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tool and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n<br />
cross over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> formed area, avoiding <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
possibility of smashing <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> form. No additi<strong>on</strong>al<br />
ax<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> moves are made in order to avoid <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> form.<br />
In additi<strong>on</strong> to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> form avoidance settings,<br />
NC Express allows <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> setup of an exit angle<br />
path to provide for automatic ordering of a<br />
special tool when optimizing. Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> especially<br />
useful for a louver tool: Time <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> saved during<br />
part preparati<strong>on</strong> and during optimizati<strong>on</strong><br />
because no additi<strong>on</strong>al work <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> needed to<br />
manipulate <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tool path within <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> optimized<br />
nest.<br />
Orders Management System (OMS)<br />
NC Express comes standard with an<br />
MRP/ERP interface to allow customers to<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol and track parts <str<strong>on</strong>g>that</str<strong>on</strong>g> have processed<br />
within NC Express to be sent to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g>.<br />
The Orders Management System (OMS) <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a<br />
database in which producti<strong>on</strong> requirements are<br />
determined. The parts required for producti<strong>on</strong>,<br />
quantity, material codes, priorities, and due<br />
dates used to be processed for JIT fabricati<strong>on</strong>.<br />
From job shop to OEM, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> OMS can benefit<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> end user taking orders from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> MRP/ERP<br />
and processing <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m into nests.<br />
Automatic Comm<strong>on</strong> Line Cutting<br />
For punching, punch/shear, and standal<strong>on</strong>e<br />
laser <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g>, NC Express offers fully<br />
automatic<br />
comm<strong>on</strong><br />
line cutting<br />
features.<br />

COMING SOON…<br />
NC EXPRESS NEW RELEASE V6.1<br />
Finn-<str<strong>on</strong>g>Power</str<strong>on</strong>g> will so<strong>on</strong> be releasing updated software<br />
for NC Express…Versi<strong>on</strong> 6.1. Some of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> new features<br />
include:<br />
Networking (Sharing) of nest folders<br />
New nesting features:<br />
– Automatic mirroring<br />
– Coil line nesting<br />
– Increased functi<strong>on</strong>ality for interactive editing<br />
Optimizati<strong>on</strong> settings per tool to enhance <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
efficiency<br />
Improved laser optimizati<strong>on</strong><br />
– More functi<strong>on</strong>ality for automatic comm<strong>on</strong> line<br />
– Scrap cutting – crop lines in both X and Y<br />
New feature for automatic scripted part generati<strong>on</strong><br />
11<br />
activated in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> nesting phase and will help to<br />
reduce <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> scrap rate between parts. Once a nest<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> created with parts and tools in a comm<strong>on</strong><br />
line, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Optimizer will remove excessive hits in<br />
order to avoid double punching hits or double<br />
laser paths. Within <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> punch/shear<br />
envir<strong>on</strong>ment <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> nesting engine will comm<strong>on</strong><br />
line symmetrical parts, ignoring tooling<br />
overlapping from notches. For n<strong>on</strong>-symmetrical<br />
parts in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> punch/shear envir<strong>on</strong>ment, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> nest<br />
engine will check <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tolerance set and ignore<br />
tooling extending less than <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> grid nesting<br />
tolerance.<br />
Comp<strong>on</strong>ent Stacking Management<br />
For <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g> types requiring stacking of<br />
comp<strong>on</strong>ents<br />
<strong>on</strong> a cassette,<br />
NC Express <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
capable of<br />
automatically<br />
c<strong>on</strong>figuring<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> stacking<br />
layout of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
comp<strong>on</strong>ents<br />
<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
cassette.<br />
During <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
nesting<br />
process <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
user has opti<strong>on</strong>s to determine <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> layout of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
cassette. The nesting engine will nest parts based<br />
up<strong>on</strong> stacking. Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> allows for NC programs to<br />
be loaded within <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g> and requires<br />
minimal setup of cassettes by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> operator when<br />
queuing <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> NC files. The overall outcome of<br />
th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> feature offers less setup time by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
operator.<br />
For even more automati<strong>on</strong> and time savings<br />
for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> programmer, if a robot ex<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>machine</str<strong>on</strong>g>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> user can take advantage of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
automatic robot sucti<strong>on</strong> cup setup via Autotool<br />
to automate more of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> process.
