ADVANCED CHANNEL OPTIONS In addition to the basic channel properties, there are several advanced properties that can be configured for each channel. The advanced options are located in the Options menu in the Channel Properties window. Subfolder Options In this menu, you are able to define the properties of the source and destination folders during and after processing. Your options are as follows: Source Folder Options Include subfolders: When enabled, Distribution Manager scans through all subfolders contained within the source folder and moves all files found to the destination folder. Note that the subfolder structure from the source folder is not mirrored within the output folder - the files are merely placed in the uppermost level of the destination folder. Remove empty subfolders: By default, subfolders are not deleted from the source folder after the files contained within are transferred. When enabled, all subfolders within the source folder will be automatically removed once the transfer is complete. Destination Folder Options Add source subfolder name to filename: By enabling this feature, the name of the source folder will be added to the filename of the transferred file. If, for instance, the file Legal.doc is copied from the folder Docs, the output file will be renamed DocsLegal.doc. Mirror Folder Structure: When enabled, the entire tree of subfolders within the source folder is duplicated, and the files are transferred to their respective subfolders within the destination folder. Filename Options The Filename Options menu allows you to set different parameters concerning the naming of files in the destination folder. File Name Options Add Prefix: Allows you to add any prefix to the files processed in the selected channel. Replace files with same name: By default, if a file exists in the destination 12 FotoStation 3.5 User Guide
ADVANCED CHANNEL OPTIONS folder with the same name as a file currently processed, the new file will be named filename-2.ext, filename-3.ext and so on. When this option is enabled, however, the new file will overwrite the original. Limit Filename Length: This feature is especially useful when transferring files between different operating systems. DOS, for instance, has a limitation of an eight-character long filename with an optional three-character extension. The Macintosh is limited to a maximum 32-character long filename. By limiting the length of the filenames, you can avoid invalid filenames in your system. By checking the box labeled Preserve Extension, the extension will always be preserved, and the maximum number of characters entered applies only to the filename, not the extension. Set File Name Mapping: As certain systems don't support all types of characters, clicking this button will display a table where you can define the ASCII values of undesired characters and map them to characters or strings supported by your system. Simply enter the ASCII value in the appropriate field and the character or string with which you want to replace it in the other. Then click Add. File Extension Options Limit Extension Length: Certain systems, such as DOS, have a limitation of three characters in the file extension. If your system has such a limitation, you can set up Distribution Manager to limit the length of the extension using this feature. Remove Extension: If you wish to remove the extension from the output file in the current channel, check this box. Replace Extension: By checking this box, you can set up Distribution Manager to change the extension of files when stored in the destination folder. Clicking the button labeled Set Extensions allows you to define up to five different extensions and their respective new ones. If, for instance, you wish to change the extension of all .TXT files in the source folder to .DOC in the destination folder, simply enter .TXT in the first field and .DOC in the corresponding replacement field.
