POST BACCALAUREATE PRE-HEALTH STUDIES CERTIFICATE PROGRAM<br />

concentrate on a specific area of study in a<br />

shorter period of time than would be required<br />

to obtain a degree. Many courses attained<br />

through a Graduate Certificate may later be<br />

used towards a <strong>Framingham</strong> <strong>State</strong> College<br />

graduate degree program by students who<br />

apply and are accepted into such a program at<br />

a later date. Ordinarily, students may transfer<br />

up to one course taken at another institution<br />

towards a Graduate Certificate Program.<br />

Post Baccalaureate Pre-Health<br />

Studies Certificate Program<br />

The post baccalaureate pre-health studies<br />

certificate program is designed for college<br />

graduates who wish to prepare for graduate<br />

study in a health care profession but who<br />

did not take the required science courses<br />

as part of their undergraduate program. The<br />

certificate program provides the pre-requisite<br />

courses required by the majority of health<br />

care professional programs, including, but<br />

not limited to dental, medical, pharmacy and<br />

veterinary schools; graduate entry nursing<br />

programs; physician assistant programs; and<br />

physical therapy programs. Students will<br />

work closely with a health studies advisor to<br />

develop an individualized program of study to<br />

meet their goals. The total number and type of<br />

courses required varies by area of interest and<br />

by graduate program. Many of the 200-level<br />

and above courses in the program have prerequisites<br />

(as indicated by an asterisk on the list<br />

below). Therefore, in certain instances, students<br />

may be required to take additional courses<br />

beyond the seven-course requirement of the<br />

certificate program. NOTE: This program is not<br />

designed for students who graduated from a<br />

pre-health studies undergraduate program who<br />

seek to repeat pre-requisite courses in order to<br />

improve their academic records.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

1. Applicants must have earned a<br />

baccalaureate degree from a regionally<br />

accredited college or university and<br />

must submit an official transcript from<br />

each college or university attended as an<br />

undergraduate student.<br />

2. Applicants must have a minimum<br />

cumulative grade point average of 2.7 on a<br />

4.0 scale.<br />

3. Applicant must provide two letters<br />

of recommendation from professors,<br />

supervisors, and/or colleagues, submitted<br />

on the <strong>Framingham</strong> <strong>State</strong> College Letter of<br />

Recommendation form and sent directly<br />

to the College by the recommender.<br />

4. Applicants must submit a typed, 600-<br />

1,000 word personal statement discussing<br />

your motivation for seeking this certificate<br />

in view of prior formal education, current<br />

job responsibilities, and career plans.<br />
