GRADUATE ADMISSION<br />
Graduate Admission<br />
The following are general requirements for<br />
admission. Students should review the specific<br />
requirements for admission to the particular<br />
program they are interested in as provided later<br />
in this catalog.<br />
Application<br />
Applicants must possess an undergraduate<br />
degree from a regionally accredited institution<br />
of higher education and submit an official copy<br />
of their undergraduate transcripts. Two letters<br />
of recommendation are required (three for the<br />
M.A. in Counseling Psychology). One letter must<br />
be from an employer or supervisor, and the<br />
other must be from a faculty member who has<br />
taught the candidate at the collegiate level if the<br />
candidate has attended classes in the last five<br />
years. Also required are a statement expressing<br />
the applicant’s reasons for seeking to undertake<br />
graduate study in the chosen area, and/or other<br />
essays.<br />
Admission for most master’s programs (except<br />
Counseling Psychology) is on a rolling basis;<br />
however, students seeking admission for fall<br />
semester should have a complete application on<br />
file by May 1, while students seeking admission<br />
for spring semester should have a complete<br />
application on file by November 1. Applications<br />
completed or received after these dates cannot<br />
be guaranteed timely matriculation.<br />
Academic requirements, such as quality point<br />
average, can be found under specific programs.<br />
Where required by the program, applicants must<br />
submit an official copy of the results of the<br />
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT),<br />
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the<br />
Miller Analogies Test (MAT) taken within the<br />
last five years. Most programs do not require<br />
the GRE or MAT for students who have already<br />
earned a master’s degree. Exceptions are the<br />
M.A. in Counseling Psychology program, which<br />
requires a minimum score on the MAT or GRE;<br />
the MBA, which requires the GMAT; and the<br />
M.Ed. in English, which requires the GRE English<br />
Subject Test. Specific test requirements are<br />
stated under each program in this catalog. Test<br />
application forms and information are available<br />
in the Office of Graduate and Continuing<br />
Education. TOEFL scores are required of<br />

candidates seeking admission from non-English<br />
speaking countries. The TOEFL may be waived if<br />
the applicant has attended an American college<br />
or university and successfully completed at<br />
least two full academic years.<br />
Graduate Applications are available from<br />
the Division of Graduate and Continuing<br />
Education at 508-626-4550, or online at<br />
www.framingham.edu/dgce. Applications<br />
are accepted year-round. Students may<br />
begin most programs of study in September<br />
or January. Students may also begin taking<br />
courses during the summer. Please note,<br />
however, that not every course is scheduled<br />
each semester.<br />

Applications remaining incomplete for over one<br />
year will be discarded.<br />
Courses Before Admission<br />
Students are allowed to enroll in no more than<br />
two graduate courses before formal admission<br />
to a master’s program. Courses taken before<br />
admission must be completed with a grade<br />
of B- or better if they are to be considered for<br />
transfer into a graduate program. Students<br />
are required to complete the curriculum under<br />
the degree program in place when they are<br />
admitted. Since curriculum changes may occur,<br />
courses taken prior to matriculation may not<br />
apply toward the degree program.<br />
Transfer Courses<br />
Transfer credit for prior graduate coursework<br />
completed at another accredited college or<br />
university will be considered at the time of<br />
admission based on course descriptions and<br />
documentation submitted with the student’s<br />
application. Matriculated graduate students<br />
are expected to complete all coursework at<br />
<strong>Framingham</strong> <strong>State</strong> College. Under extenuating<br />
