Teacher Licensure in Massachusetts
Massachusetts has several levels of teacher
licensure. The PBTL Program prepares students
for the Initial License with its coursework, fieldbased
experiences, and supervised practicum.
Teacher licenses must be renewed every five
years through the accumulation of Professional
Development Points or other requirements as
defined by the Commonwealth.
The requirements mandated by Massachusetts
are a major effort to strengthen the preparation
of teachers and administrators in the schools.
Framingham State College has responded by
adjusting the requirements in its programs.
It will continue to do so, as it simultaneously
seeks to protect the interests of its students
while remaining in compliance with state
regulations. All information in this bulletin is
accurate as of press time and is subject to any
further change in state laws and regulations.
The Elementary Education courses for the PBTL
Program are available during the late afternoon
hours. To be eligible for these courses, students
must be officially accepted and enrolled in the
PBTL Program.
Further information about the PBTL Program
may be obtained from the Division of Graduate
and Continuing Education.
