<strong>The</strong> deceased was the last charter member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church which was founded in<br />

this city in 1872. <strong>The</strong> charter roll was signed by twenty. She was devout member of the Lutheran Church.<br />

Survivors are the brother Charles SCHOLDER, the sister Mrs. KAYSER, two nieces and a nephew.<br />

<strong>The</strong> funeral services will be held from the St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Fourth Street at 2 p.m.<br />

Friday with Rev. William SCHROER officiating. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.<br />

All those who wish to contribute toward a memorial wreath for Miss Scholder are requested to call<br />

Rev. Schroer at 483-R.ß<br />

Funeral services for George W. BRUGH will be held Thursday afternoon two o’clock at the residence,<br />

nine miles northwest of this city. Rev. ROUCH will be in charge of the services.<br />

Dr. Albertus T. BRIGGS, 75, former pastor of the First Methodist church here, died at the Methodist<br />

hospital at Indianapolis Monday. He had been in ill health for several years.<br />

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Gobin Memorial church,<br />

Greencastle. For two years Dr. Briggs was acting pastor of the Gobin church. He had made his home in<br />

Greencastle since leaving LaPorte in 1925.<br />

Dr. Briggs was a graduate of DePauw university with the class of 1890, having won Phi Beta Kappa<br />

honors. He was superintendent of the Hammond district of the Methodist church from 1908 to 1914 and of<br />

the Greencastle district from 1925 to 1931, when he retired.<br />

He also held pastorates at various times in Rochester, Kentland, Monticello, Attica, West Lafayette,<br />

Terre Haute, Carpentersville and Knightsville.<br />

Dr. Briggs was president of the Preachers’ Aid society for more than 10 years and helped found the<br />

Maple Methodist church at Terre Haute.<br />

He is survived by his widow, the former Lenore ALLMAN; five daughters, Mrs. Max GARDNER,<br />

Berkeley, Calif.; Mrs. Paul RICE, New York City; Miss Mildred BRIGGS, Amherst, Mass.; Mrs. John<br />

COPPES, Nappanee, Ind., and Mrs. William BLANCHARD, Pomona, Calif.<br />

Thursday, September 16, <strong>1937</strong><br />

Raleigh POLEN, 58, former Kewanna resident, died Wednesday in an Indiana Harbor hospital where<br />

he had been a patient several weeks. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and the Baptist church at<br />

Indiana Harbor.<br />

Survivors are the widow; four brothers, Amos [POLEN], George [POLEN], Vause [POLEN] and<br />

William [POLEN]; and three sisters, Mrs. Millie DeVAULT of Kewanna and Mrs. Nannie VanBRELE of<br />

Bedford.<br />

<strong>The</strong> body was returned to the Harrison funeral home in Kewanna today where funeral rites will be held<br />

at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, and burial will be made in the Kewanna I.O.O.F. cemetery.
