Mrs. Rebecca Catherine LANDIS, 79, died Friday morning, April 9, at 10:15 a.m., at the home of her<br />

son, John LANDIS, 114 River Ave., Mishawaka. She has lived with her son for the past two months.<br />

Mrs. Landis was born in Tyner and had lived in the Culver community for 45 years. Ten years ago,<br />

because of poor health, she broke up her home to live with her children.<br />

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Garnet SNYDER of Canton, O.; Mrs. Bessie KOMM of Peshastin,<br />

Wash.; and Mrs. Jennie BROWN of Rochester; two sons, Charles LANDIS of Chicago and John LANDIS<br />

of Mishawaka.<br />

Funeral services for Mrs. Landis were held Sunday at 2 o’clock at the Poplar Grove church near Argos<br />

with Rev. Richard PENGILLY officiating. Burial was made in the Poplar Grove cemetery.<br />

Mrs. Charles YANKEE, aged 66, died Saturday afternoon at her farm home four miles southeast of<br />

<strong>Fulton</strong> after an illness of three weeks due to heart trouble.<br />

<strong>The</strong> deceased was born on a farm in Pulaski county on March 23, 1871 and was the daughter of Emery<br />

and Mary VanATTA. She has lived in Liberty township for a number of years.<br />

She is survived by her husband, Charles YANKEE; four daughters, Mrs. Grace MILLER, South Bend;<br />

Mrs. Nettie LUTZ, Logansport; Mrs. Pearl WISEMAN, Peru; Alberta YANKEE, at home; and five sons,<br />

Riley [YANKEE] and Jesse [YANKEE], of South Bend; Ray [YANKEE] of Twelve Mile; and Gale<br />

[YANKEE] and Gilbert [YANKEE], at home; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl MUSSELMAN, Twelve Mile; Mrs.<br />

Myrtle DOUD, Milford, Ill.; and Mrs. Ada OAKLEY, Mishawaka; three brothers, Arney VanATTA,<br />

<strong>Fulton</strong>; Z. VanATTA, Rochester, and Joseph VanATTA, Twelve Mile and 12 grandchildren.<br />

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 o’clock at Twelve Mile U.B. church, Rev. WILSON<br />

officiating; burial at Twelve Mile.<br />

Mrs. Mel HILL, of this city, has received word of the death of her brother-in-law, Fred CRAVEN, Sr.,<br />

of South Bend. Mr. Craven, who was a barber, formerly was a resident of this city and had a wide<br />

acquaintance of friends throughout the county. Death which occurred at the Epworth hospital in South<br />

Bend at 7 o’clock Monday morning, was attributed to complications.<br />

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock at the Forrest Hayes Funeral home<br />

in South Bend. Rev. COLE of that city will officiate. Burial will be made in the Highland cemetery in<br />

South Bend.<br />

Otto BRANDENBURG, aged 62, a former resident of this city and a brother of Benjamin<br />

Brandenburg, died in the Osteopathic Hospital in Chicago Thursday following an illness of one week due<br />

to heart trouble.<br />

<strong>The</strong> deceased, who lived at 8235 St. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, was born in Pitwood, Ill., on January<br />

18, 1875 and was the son of Frank and Mary Jane BRANDENBURG.<br />

Mr. Brandenburg was a commercial artist and was employed for many years by the Crescent Company<br />

of Chicago. <strong>The</strong> deceased owned a cottage at Lake Manitou and had spent his vacations here for the past 25<br />

years.<br />

His wife was Bessie CARPENTER of Watseka, Ill. Mr. Brandenburg was very active in the<br />

Englewood Christian Church on the south side of Chicago.<br />

Survivors are the widow, son Dr. Frank C. BRANDENBURG, Chicago; and two brothers Frank<br />

BRANDENBURG of Chicago, and Benjamin BRANDENBURG.
