The - many - tourists who attended the Holy Resurrection were there along with their photographic lenses, zooming in and out, ready to devour the spectacle. I was one of those voracious hunters. When the first petards started exploding, I found myself nestled up, seeking my way out. I then realised that the fireworks, the smoke and the whole turmoil were mentally linked to the tear gas, the clangors and the noise of the riots. For good. My mind had merged the two, making new, irreversible cohesions. Another aspect of innocence, lost for the sake of Debt. Beaches: Mouros, Aghia Anna, Gramvousa (by boat from Kato Meria) Eat: Lagada: Erondas (delicacies, snacks), Vary (meals), Loukaki (traditional cuisine together with live music) Tholaria: Choreftis and Kali Kardia (foods and grocery store) Katapola: Nondas (local greengroceries and organic foods) Kato Meria: Marouso, Giorgalini Chora: Triporto (recommended without a shadow of a doubt. Delicacies, drinks and “I-am-drifting-off-as-I- am-musing” kind of situations, and talks with Youli who, somehow, resembles ancient Greece) Night out / beach bar: Q (the legendary) in Aeghiali Camping: Aeghiali (a tourists’ hangout, more vibrant and noisy ) Katapola (tranquil, suitable for families) Stay: Elia Studios (www.studiosamorgos.gr) in Aeghiali (next to the beach, with good service and autonomy level) What to eat & drink: Fired raki, patatato, malaka (fresh soft white cheese) and kopanisti (aged spicy cheese) Where to go, what to see, what to do: Scuba diving, climbing and hiking/ trekking through organized, tested mountain paths. Drop by the monastery of Chozoviotissa and see the icon that “travelled” all the way from Palestine, the beautiful Tholaria and the traditional settlement in Xylokeratidi, with a shipyard which dates back in the Mycenaean era. Also visit Parianos- the water spring that’s said to be connected to the island of Paros- or go on a quest and seek the “speaking water” near Valsamitis, the location of an ancient sacred water oracle. 10 URBANSTYLEMAG
