Research shows that <strong>play</strong> supports learning and development across the<br />
physical, communication, social, emotional, affective, intellectual and educational<br />
domains.<br />

1 In the physical domain, <strong>play</strong> <strong>is</strong> particularly vital for encouraging physical<br />
movement, co-ordination and strength. Physical <strong>play</strong> activities will ass<strong>is</strong>t to<br />
develop your child’s:<br />
• Gross motor skills (e.g. jumping, riding,<br />
carrying, climbing, lifting, throwing)<br />
• Fine motor skills (e.g. cutting, constructing,<br />
pasting, turning, tw<strong>is</strong>ting, squeezing,<br />
buttoning, pouring, painting)<br />
• Strength and endurance (e.g. <strong>play</strong>ing<br />
sports, constructing, pulling a wagon,<br />
