Contractual relationship with the International Cycling Union<br />
• The International Cycling Union (UCI) provided <strong>org</strong>anisation guidelines.<br />
• The <strong>org</strong>anisation committee paid CHF 300,000 to the UCI.<br />
• The <strong>org</strong>anisation committee was responsible for the financial management of<br />
the event, with guarantees from the local council<br />
• The UCI provided the committee with a complete timing system and the accreditation<br />
system (tools, supports).<br />
• The UCI owns all the television rights. The <strong>org</strong>aniser was responsible for the<br />
production of television pictures<br />
Relationship with the local authorities/local <strong>org</strong>anisations<br />
• The event was used to provide publicity for the “Portes du Soleil” area and to<br />
help attract Tour Operators<br />
Television coverage <strong><strong>org</strong>anisational</strong> function<br />
• Limits of responsibility:<br />
- Receipts went to the UCI<br />
- Expenses were paid by the committee: 200,000<br />
• Choice of service provider (pictures + overlays and graphics)<br />
- Preparation of a specification validated by the UCI: July 2003<br />
- Call for tenders from 5 service providers: September 2003<br />
- Choice of CIS (Monaco): March 2004<br />
• During the event, the committee provided parking <strong>space</strong> for the outside broadcast<br />
control room, as well as power and maintenance.<br />
• The management of last-minute requests was difficult but essential, given the<br />
importance of the event for the resort in terms of image and exposure.<br />
Recommendations<br />
• The juridical structure of the event was based on individual contracts between<br />
the two parties:<br />
- Sports Association – Les Gets Evénements public-private partnership<br />
company<br />
- Sports Association – Ski lifts public-private partnership company<br />
• The support of the local council is essential<br />
• “Dream large, start small”: gradually build <strong><strong>org</strong>anisational</strong> skills and expand<br />
objectives.<br />
