8.3.4 Radiation Measurement<br />
A heat flux gage was positioned in the living room floor, centered on the space to determine the<br />
heat flux at the ceiling level. See Figure 17 <strong>for</strong> the relative position within the space. The unit<br />
incorporated a 90 degree angle which allowed it to be positioned underneath a slightly raised<br />
floor assembly. The gage was capable <strong>of</strong> measuring heat flux to a limit <strong>of</strong> 50 kW/m 2 . See<br />
Figure B-6 <strong>of</strong> Appendix B <strong>for</strong> a photograph <strong>of</strong> the instrument.<br />
8.3.5 Video<br />
Various video camera angles were used throughout the test series. The view into the primary<br />
space from the lab was chosen to be the primary camera. Infrared imagery was used to<br />
document the burning <strong>of</strong> the <strong>com</strong>bustibles within the primary space during the freeburn testing.<br />
8.3.6 Data Collection<br />
All data was collected using an electronic data acquisition system at a one-second-scan rate.<br />
8.4 Fuel Package - Commodity<br />
8.4.1 S<strong>of</strong>a and Loveseat<br />
The outer covering <strong>of</strong> the s<strong>of</strong>a and loveseat used in the test series were constructed from 100%<br />
polyester in accordance with the manufacturer’s label. The body inside the furnishings was<br />
constructed chiefly from polyester fiber. The padding from the seat cushions were constructed<br />
primarily from polyurethane foam with a resinated polyester fiber batting in accordance with the<br />
manufacturer’s label. <strong>UL</strong> did not verify this in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />
8.4.2 Cocktail Table and End Tables<br />
The cocktail table and end tables were constructed <strong>of</strong> solid wood.<br />
8.4.3 Entertainment Center<br />
The entertainment center was constructed <strong>of</strong> particle board with a dark wood veneer.<br />
8.4.4 Carpet<br />
The carpeting used filled the entire primary living room space and was constructed primarily<br />
from a polyolefin based material.<br />
8.4.5 Miscellaneous Combustibles<br />
In addition to the primary furnishings mentioned above, magazines were used on the corner end<br />
table as well as the cocktail table. Plastic toys were used on the cocktail table. A plastic plant<br />
