TASK 7 - CONDUCT LIVING ROOM SPACE FIRE TESTS TO EVALUATE EFFECTIVENESS OF SPECIAL EXTINGUISHING AGENT DISCHARGE 10.1 General Two tests per agent were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and fire fighting characteristics of the selected agents in controlling the fire. 10.2 Test Method Using the same test arrangements of Task 6 in section 9, each of the six agents were evaluated, as applied through the test nozzle of Task 6 and using a premixed solution delivery method. Each agent was prepared at a 1 percent design concentration for consistency. Using the same fire fighting tactics of Task 6, the agents were applied 30 seconds after flashover had occurred. Again, flashover was based on the convective heat release rate of 1,900 kW being used for consistency between tests. 10.3 Test Results – Wide Spray Attack The heat release rate versus time results can be reviewed from the standpoint of lowering the heat release rate after application of the agent as compared with the baseline water only attack. Figure 26 shows the time taken to reduce the convective heat release rate to 1,500kW, 1,000kW and 500 kW from time zero which is the initial attack. Figure 27 shows the time percent differential between each agent tested and water as a baseline. The time basis for this analysis is from the total elapsed time to reduce the heat release rate from 1,500 kW to 500kW, realizing that water application began near 1,900 kW. The percent difference compares the times to reduce the heat release rate from each agent against the water as a baseline. Negative numbers indicate an improvement over water alone in time to reach this threshold. Similar data is presented for reducing the total heat release rate from 4,000 kW to 1,000 kW using the methods just stated for the convective heat release rate.
