We would encourage you to familiarize yourself with our web site where you will find many important issues and calendars. A limited number of copies of the newsletter are available in the main office. Our website is www.cbe.ab.ca/b858/ ATTENDANCE LINE – 281-3429 We would respectfully request that families be mindful to book appointments and holidays outside of school hours. It is our view that this is your students “first job” and we would ask them, whenever possible, to attend to their “work” during school hours. It is especially important that students are available to write their final exams – please refer to the School and Exam schedules at the end of this newsletter. REPORT CARDS SIRS Computerized Report Cards will be distributed to students on March 13 th in Mentorship Rooms at 9:50 till 10:39 am. PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS March 19 th , 3:00 – 7:00 pm. We encourage students to join parents at interviews! The school day will begin at 8:55 am with 4 – 57 classes (i.e. Period 1, 2, 3 and 4). We kindly ask that you adhere to a 10-minute time limit per interview so other parents may have an equal opportunity to meet with teachers. If additional time is required with a specific teacher, please arrange to meet outside of Parent-Teacher Interview night. Thank you for your understanding and we are looking forward to seeing you. NEXT YEAR’S GR. 11 & 12 REGISTRATIONS Registrations of our next school year’s Grades 11 and 12 students are now done. If your student has not registered for classes, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL IMMEDIATELY. DRESS CODE It’s that time of the year again when we would like to reinforce our dress code, which reads as follows: “Students’ dress at school should be suitable for learning activities. Just as there is a mode of dress suited to office work, To the playing field or gymnasium, to various social or formal functions, there is also a mode of dress suited to classroom learning. Distracting clothing such as beach wear, halter tops,. Spaghetti strap tops, open back or midriff outfits, muscle shirts, shorts and skirts above finger tip length, and t-shirts with offensive language or images are not acceptable. Shoes must be worn at all times for health and safety reasons.
Our expectations for dress at Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School are intended to promote a positive learning atmosphere and we ask all members of our school community to support and respect these expectations”. GRAD 2008 Ceremonies, Friday, May 23 rd , Jack Simpson Gymnasium, U of C, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm Banquet and Dance, Friday, May 23 rd , Round-Up Centre, Stampede Park 6:00 pm – 12:30 am On Friday, March 14 th there will be a General Grad Meeting for all Grade 12 students during Mentorship Class. Valuable information about the Closing Exercises and Grad Banquet and Dance will be given at this meeting. On March 14 th , Grade 12 students will be provided with a detailed information booklet, which presents all pertinent information about Closing Exercises Invitations, Grad Banquet Ticket sales, the Closing Exercises at the U of C and the Graduation Banquet and Dance at the Round-Up Centre. Please ask your grade 12 student about the booklet after this date. They should have brought this booklet home. During the week of March 3 – 10 th teachers will be nominating students for Valedictorian, Class Historian and MC. The nominated students will be notified before Spring Break and speeches will be judged and selected after Spring Break. Stay tuned to LTV for further details. The teachers will be receiving the nomination forms for Valedictorian, Class Historian and MC on the 5 th of March. If a student wishes to be nominated for one or more of these speeches, please speak to a teacher so they know to nominate you. The speeches will be judged starting right after Spring Break. Letters will be going out to all students nominated and a meeting for nominated students will take place to give all details. We will also be auditioning students for entertainment for the Closing Ceremonies and Banquet and Dance. Stay tuned to LTV for details. MENTORSHIP Mentorship Day was a big success. Our grade 10 and 11 students met, together with their parents and Mentorship teachers to program classes for next year. We appreciate the time and effort everyone puts in to helping our students make the appropriate course selections for the up coming year. Parent attendance at these meetings reinforces how important education is in the lives of our youth and help to forge greater bonds between school and home. Together we can help students make the right course choices; choices that will affect where they go in the future.
