activities are carried out, <strong>and</strong> any other directly associated activities which have a technical connection to<br />
the activities carried out on that site, <strong>and</strong> which could have an effect on emissions <strong>and</strong> pollution.<br />
May be a technical unit within an establishment in which dangerous substances are produced, used,<br />
h<strong>and</strong>led or stored.<br />
EXAMPLE Within an oil refinery, different installations are represented by storage areas, cracking units,<br />
reforming units, <strong>and</strong> other units h<strong>and</strong>ling the various phases of the refining process.<br />

Specific technical part of the installation which is developing a representative functionality that should be<br />
registered under the legislation.<br />

A person or company that runs a business or enterprise <strong>and</strong> which is legally responsible of the facility.<br />
This means any natural or legal person who operates to manage <strong>and</strong> control the facility or, where this is<br />
provided by the national legislation, to whom decisive economic power over the technical functioning of<br />
the facility has been delegated.<br />

A piece of l<strong>and</strong> part of a facility destined to functional purposes. A potential sub-division of a major site as<br />
delimited extension of l<strong>and</strong> in which are performed extensive operations related with the activity or one of<br />
the activities performed by a facility.<br />

Artificial construction, part of the production facility that are useful to host or provide shelter to activity<br />
development. Inside a facility, <strong>and</strong> in relation with the definition of building, this entity should represent a<br />
