4.6 Government Policy Requirements<br />
4.6.1 Corruption Prevention<br />
The <strong>Disability</strong> <strong>Services</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> is committed to creating and maintaining a work<br />
environment that supports ethical behaviours, that actively discourages potentially<br />
corrupt acts, and deals promptly and fairly with instances of misconduct.<br />
Ongoing actions which address corruption prevention issues include:<br />

the provision of a comprehensive staff orientation day for all new employees<br />
which deals with ethical behaviours. The Public Sector Code of Ethics, the<br />
<strong>Commission</strong>’s Code of Personal Conduct and a Dealing with Corruption<br />
information sheet listing internal and external contact points is provided to all<br />
attendees for future reference;<br />
induction training in cash handling for employees acting on behalf of people<br />
with disabilities who use the <strong>Commission</strong>’s accommodation facilities;<br />
published policies and procedures and support for managers and employees in<br />
handling behaviours in the workplace that may constitute misconduct;<br />
published policies and procedures covering the <strong>Commission</strong>’s procurement<br />
activities and use of electronic mail systems;<br />
awareness-raising presentations covering relevant policies and procedures are<br />
provided throughout the <strong>Commission</strong>; and<br />
published articles in the <strong>Commission</strong>’s staff Cheers newsletter.<br />
During the year the <strong>Commission</strong> undertook extensive consultation to review and<br />
update its Code of Personal Conduct. Once endorsed, the updated Code was placed<br />
on the <strong>Commission</strong>’s Intranet and a copy was provided to all employees.<br />
The Corporate Executive endorsed an implementation plan to launch the updated<br />
Code of Personal Conduct. This included a series of awareness-raising presentations<br />
delivered by the Director General across a range of <strong>Commission</strong> work sites.<br />
4.6.2 Substantive Equality<br />
In <strong>2006</strong>, the <strong>Commission</strong> developed a five-year plan to promote substantive equality.<br />
Part of a State Government initiative, the <strong>Commission</strong> is one of 25 agencies<br />
committed to ensure services achieve substantive equality by ensuring staff work<br />
respectfully with the increasing number of people from diverse cultural backgrounds<br />
in a manner which is responsive to culture and which achieves the same level of<br />
service outcomes as for other people accessing services.<br />
Progress toward implementing the five-year plan and additional initiatives undertaken<br />
in the past 12 months include the following.<br />
