Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course Fee Changes

Summary
The Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course (FHMGC) has received numerous upgrades since
2003 and is now a premier course in this part of the state. The fee structure at the course
has not changed since 2003 when the current prices were put into effect. The current fees
are well below average when compared to other courses in the state. The Golf Course
Advisory Board and City Staff recommend increasing fees at the Fort Hays Municipal
Golf Course.
Background
The current fee structure at the Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course has been unchanged
since 2003. The City of Hays has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in course
improvements since 2003 and it is now time to increase user fees to adequate levels based
on these course improvements and based on average costs at other courses across the
state. Fee increases have been a topic of discussion by the Golf Course Advisory Board
as well as City Staff for several years.
Discussion
The current fees for the course are well below average. At the October 4 th , 2010 Golf
Course Advisory Board meeting, the Board voted unanimously to increases the fees to
the levels being proposed in Attachment “A”. The proposed fee increases would apply to
all levels of greens fees, memberships, trail fees and cart shed rentals. Attachment “A”
shows the current prices as well as the proposed changes for 2011. Staff estimates an
annual increase in revenue of approximately $70,000.00 with these changes based on
2009 participation levels.
