isomers. The isomeric ratios were determined from the isolated yields. NR: no reaction.<br />

Gratifyingly, the allylation reaction proceeded very well in [bmim][Br] to furnish<br />

excellent anti selectivity. Bi mediated allylation of 3 in H 2 O produced predominantly the<br />

anti product (13a:13b = 23.2:76.8) with 62% yield; however the same reaction in<br />

[bmim][Br] proceeded with 75% yield of the products.<br />
