SECTION 22: <strong>IN</strong>-PATIENT DIRECT CARE<br />

In addition to the preceding sections, In-patient Direct Care shall also comply with Sections<br />

22 through 34.<br />

A. Administration shall be responsible for the following:<br />

1. Policies and procedures shall be provided for the general administration of<br />

the institution and for each department, section or service in the facility. All<br />

policies and procedures for departments or services shall have evidence of<br />

ongoing review and/or revision. The first page of each manual shall have the<br />

annual review date, signature of the department supervisor and/or person(s)<br />

conducting the review.<br />

2. The facility shall have visitation policies determined by the Medical Staff,<br />

Governing Body and Administration. Patients shall be permitted to receive<br />

visitors at any hour, including small children.<br />

3. Disaster Preparedness<br />

B. Nursing<br />

A written disaster preparedness plan shall be developed and communicated<br />

to staff through orientation, education and ongoing reviews. The plan shall<br />

include:<br />

a) A definition of “disaster” for the hospice inpatient facility’s given<br />

location and circumstances;<br />

b) Arrangements for prompt identification and transfer of patients and<br />

records to another facility if necessary;<br />

c) Arrangements for coordination of community resource; and<br />

d) Menus to coincide with a 24-hour supply of perishable and 72 hours<br />

supply for non-perishable food available for emergencies.<br />

1. The facility shall provide24 hour nursing service sufficient to meet patient<br />

needs in accordance with the patient plan of care. Each patient receives<br />

treatments, medications, and diet as prescribed, and is kept comfortable,<br />

clean, well-groomed, and protected from accident, injury, and infection.<br />
