Industry training Experience – New South Wales Surf
Life Saving.
For my industry training I completed a six-week full
time internship at the head office of Surf Life Saving
NSW. I worked in the surf sports department,
covering for a Surf Sports Administrator Officer who
was on annual leave.
My role involved:
Help plan the State High Performance camp,
which involved communicating with athletes,
coaches, camp facilitators and Narrabeen
Academy of Sport organisers.
John has been a sports motivator and MIND GAME
trainer for over 20 years. See his experience at

John's clients have won STATE, NATIONAL &
INTERNATIONAL events.
He has devised 100s of personalised MIND GAME
strategies for beginners to elite & professional
athletes competing in the world arena
Organised the ‘Beach to Bush Program’, which
is where surf life savers visit rural schools all
over New South Wales, educating them on
surf safety and the beach environment. I
contacted the schools and organised
time/date suitable and informed schools on
presentation. Then organised timetable with
presenters (life saver volunteers).
Helped with the entries with NSW Surf Life
Saving State Championships. This involved
contacting all surf clubs, and entering
competitors in divisions, events and age
groups.
John is a passionate speaker, author and TV and DVD

Completed all the data entries and
applications for the Junior Surf Officials for
State titles and contacted officials to let them
know if they have been successful
Helped in the running of the State titles, both
Junior Nippers State Championships and Open
State Championships
Communicating with officials and recording of
results at the Surf events, including the state
titles.
This internship highlighted to me how much time and
organisation goes into events. It also gave me the
opportunity to make life long connections and
relationships with a talented group of people that I will
stay in contact with. Surf Life Saving NSW provided me
with skills and knowledge that equipped me to have a
greater understanding of the sports management
sector.
