Kristen’s Juicy News….. Finally, as summer draws near so too does lots of seasonal tropical fruit, giving way to endless options for freshly squeezed juice. Nutritionist and health scientist Kristen Beck shares her top tips for choosing a juice to boost your health. Brain saver Sluggish after summer celebrations and finding it tricky to get your brain ticking over? Try an orange juice, which contains the highest amount of potassium among the five most popular Australian juices. Potassium is an important vitamin for a strong nervous system and maintaining good brain function. Strong bones Grapefruit and grape juices have a high amount of calcium which is necessary for strong bones and teeth, and plays an important role in blood clotting, muscle contraction and normal nervous system function. It’s a perfect traditional breakfast option with your morning cereal. Glowing skin Too much partying in the silly season can cause breakouts and tired looking skin. Orange juice has a very high amount of Beta-carotene, compared to other popular juices, which converts into a form of vitamin A, known to help with healthy skin and fight infections. A summer fruit punch by the pool with plenty of rockmelon and apricots, which are also high in vitamin A, is the perfect summer skin treat. Immune booster Both pineapple and orange juice are great pick-me-ups, high in folate, which is a complex vitamin also found naturally in a lot of leafy vegetables. Folate is important for cell division and growth and has been associated with good health and reducing certain cancers. For an immune system boost, combine a summer pineapple juice with a fresh chicken and avocado salad. Avocado is also high in folate. 18
Graduate Profile – Lina Caccamo Employment position: High Performance Unit Program Administrator Company you work for: The Australian Rugby Union What is your role? My role within the high performance unit is to provide administrative and logistical support to all National Rugby Union programs such as the National Academy, National Gold Squad, Junior Gold Squad, National Referee Squad and Aus 7's teams. I also provide administrative support to our integrity manager, this means I am liaising with the IRB and ASADA on a regular bases in regards to anti-doping procedures and testing for all our Australian athletes from the Australian Wallabies, Australian 7's, Academies etc. Well Done Lina – a great achievement!!
