Finally, as summer draws near so too does lots <strong>of</strong> seasonal tropical fru<strong>it</strong>, giving way to endless options for<br />

freshly squeezed juice. Nutr<strong>it</strong>ionist and health scientist Kristen Beck shares her top tips for choosing a juice to<br />

boost your health.<br />

Brain saver<br />

Sluggish after summer celebrations and finding <strong>it</strong> tricky to get your brain ticking over? Try an orange juice,<br />

which contains the highest amount <strong>of</strong> potassium among the five most popular Australian juices. Potassium is<br />

an important v<strong>it</strong>amin for a strong nervous system and maintaining good brain function.<br />

Strong bones<br />

Grapefru<strong>it</strong> and grape juices have a high amount <strong>of</strong> calcium which is necessary for strong bones and teeth, and<br />

plays an important role in blood clotting, muscle contraction and normal nervous system function. It’s a<br />

perfect trad<strong>it</strong>ional breakfast option w<strong>it</strong>h your morning cereal.<br />

Glowing skin<br />

Too much partying in the silly season can cause breakouts and tired looking skin. Orange juice has a very high<br />

amount <strong>of</strong> Beta-carotene, compared to other popular juices, which converts into a form <strong>of</strong> v<strong>it</strong>amin A, known<br />

to help w<strong>it</strong>h healthy skin and fight infections. A summer fru<strong>it</strong> punch by the pool w<strong>it</strong>h plenty <strong>of</strong> rockmelon and<br />

apricots, which are also high in v<strong>it</strong>amin A, is the perfect summer skin treat.<br />

Immune booster<br />

Both pineapple and orange juice are great pick-me-ups, high in folate, which is a complex v<strong>it</strong>amin also found<br />

naturally in a lot <strong>of</strong> leafy vegetables. Folate is important for cell division and growth and has been associated<br />

w<strong>it</strong>h good health and reducing certain cancers. For an immune system boost, combine a summer pineapple<br />

juice w<strong>it</strong>h a fresh chicken and avocado salad. Avocado is also high in folate.<br />
