At the HS 2-digit level India holds comparative adv<strong>an</strong>tage in 41 sectors 3 . India<br />

enjoys maximum comparative adv<strong>an</strong>tage in HS-50 i.e. silk unlike as in 2000, where silk<br />

is the highest r<strong>an</strong>king sector only within the m<strong>an</strong>ufactured commodities sectors. The<br />

value of the index of RCA <strong>for</strong> this sector is 17.4. This is closely followed by Lac, gums,<br />

vegetable saps <strong>an</strong>d extracts, pearls, precious stones, metals, coins, carpets <strong>an</strong>d other<br />

textile floor coverings, cotton, other made textile articles, sets, worn clothing etc. Coffee,<br />

tea, mate <strong>an</strong>d spices, works of art, collectors pieces <strong>an</strong>d <strong>an</strong>tiques, ores, slag <strong>an</strong>d ash,<br />

vegetable textile fibres nes, paper yarn, woven fabric, are other sectors that appear in the<br />

top 10 sectors r<strong>an</strong>ked according to the value of the RCA index.<br />

market are concentrated in sectors like org<strong>an</strong>ic chemicals. The org<strong>an</strong>ic chemicals sector,<br />

with 125 commodities 4 contributes about 8% of the total comparative adv<strong>an</strong>tage that<br />

India holds in the world market. This is followed by sectors like cotton, articles of<br />

apparel not knit or crochet, iron <strong>an</strong>d steel, nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery all<br />

contributing around 5 per cent of total comparative adv<strong>an</strong>tage enjoyed by India in the<br />

world market. Sector 84 i.e. nuclear Reactors <strong>an</strong>d Boilers <strong>an</strong>d Machinery also contributes<br />
