5.1.2 Commodity- wise<br />

At the six digit level, the trends observed are as follows. In terms of the value of<br />

the index of RCA flat rolled products of high speed steel >/=600mm wide r<strong>an</strong>ks at the top<br />

with <strong>an</strong> RCA value of 99.0. This is followed by items like lead carbonate (RCAI=98.19),<br />

dichlorotetra/penta-fluoroeth<strong>an</strong>es (RCAI=92.23), opium sap, turmeric (curcuma)<br />

(RCAI=89.89), <strong>an</strong>d coir yarn (RCAI=85.86) as the next five commodities r<strong>an</strong>ked<br />

according to their RCAI values 5 .<br />

The commodities that r<strong>an</strong>k among the top 100 according to the index of RCA<br />

while being dispersed among various sectors, are largely drawn from sectors like org<strong>an</strong>ic<br />

chemicals, cotton, salt, sulphur, earth, stone, plaster, lime <strong>an</strong>d cement <strong>an</strong>d iron <strong>an</strong>d steel.<br />

When sectors are r<strong>an</strong>ked according to the number of constituent top r<strong>an</strong>king (top 100)<br />

commodities, org<strong>an</strong>ic chemicals r<strong>an</strong>ks the highest.<br />

There are also some sectors where India is comparatively disadv<strong>an</strong>tageously<br />

positioned at the aggregate level but reveal signific<strong>an</strong>t comparative adv<strong>an</strong>tage at the<br />

constituent commodity (HS-six digit) level. Of the total 97 chapters, 46 are characterized<br />

in this m<strong>an</strong>ner. Among some of these chapters, commodities where India has a signific<strong>an</strong>t<br />

comparative adv<strong>an</strong>tage (i.e. c<strong>an</strong> be placed among the top 100 commodities <strong>for</strong> RCAI) c<strong>an</strong><br />

be found. A list of these sectors is given below.<br />
