The Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure Working Group (MSDIWG) did not meet during <strong>2011</strong> and had<br />
no significant items on its work programme. The MSDIWG Chairman, Mr John PEPPER (UK) was<br />
unable to continue in <strong>2011</strong> and Mrs Maureen KENNY (USA) took over the Chair.<br />

STANDARDIZATION OF NAUTICAL PUBLICATIONS<br />
WORKING GROUP<br />
(TASK 2.10.1)<br />
The Norwegian Hydrographic Service hosted the 13 th SNPWG meeting at the Victoria Hotel (Stavanger)<br />
from 4 to 8 April. The meeting was chaired by Mr. David ACLAND (UK). Delegates from the following<br />
Member States participated in the meeting: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Finland, France, Germany, Japan,<br />
Norway, UK, and USA. Expert Contributors from Interschalt, Jeppesen and NOVACO also participated<br />
in the meeting.<br />
Some of the important issues discussed during the meeting included: a proposed revision of the S-100<br />
General Feature Model to facilitate the modelling of nautical publications information, the development<br />
of a product specification for marine protected areas, relevant activities being undertaken within the<br />
Bringing Land and Sea Together (BLAST) project and improved definitions for “underkeel clearance”<br />
and “underkeel allowance.”<br />
Other important events that took place during the meeting included interesting presentations on Surveying<br />
the Norwegian Coast and Arctic Waters, the MAREANO seabed mapping program and high resolution<br />
tidal models. An excursion on the school ship M/S Gann followed by a visit to the Kvitsoy Island Vessel<br />
Traffic Management Centre was also organized. This provided members with a unique opportunity to see<br />
the Norwegian scenery, as well as gaining an insight into the complexities of monitoring and directing<br />
maritime traffic in the region.<br />
