Movement • Inspection of new data shows us that we need a new rule type, i.e. Movement Rules (Chapters 9-12). • These movement rules can account for word order variations in different languages. • It is assumed that there is a D-structure that sentences start out with, from which we can derive the surface structure that we actually observe. • When the verb is moved from some place <strong>to</strong> another, we refer <strong>to</strong> this as head-movement. 27.05.2008 Some slides are adapted from material of A.
