3. If English is not the principal language, the applicant<br />

must have achieved a minimum score of 600 (paper-based),<br />

250 (computer-based), or 100 (Internet-based) on the Test<br />

of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a 7.0 overall<br />

score on the International English Language Testing System<br />

(IELTS). (The <strong>University</strong>’s TOEFL code is 2864.)<br />

Admission Requirements for<br />

the Dual Degree Programs<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents applying to the dual degree programs must first<br />

meet the admission requirements for the appropriate<br />

phase of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.<br />

Please refer to the respective programs for details on<br />

admission requirements. For graduate programs, in<br />

addition to the professional application, applicants must<br />

submit the graduate addendum insert that accompanies<br />

the application. Once a candidate is offered admission into<br />

the professional program, the Committee on Admission<br />

will evaluate the potential for success in the dual degree<br />

program, and render an admission decision based on the<br />

information provided. <strong>St</strong>udents applying to the BS/DVM<br />

program will be reviewed for eligibility and additional<br />

course requirements that may be mandated based on<br />

academic background.<br />

Master of Science Degree Program<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

Graduates of an approved university who have achieved<br />

at least a B grade (GPA 3.0) in a Bachelor of Science or<br />

equivalent degree program are eligible for registration into<br />

the Master of Science (MSc) and dual DVM/MSc degree<br />

programs. Those applying for the dual degree must be<br />

accepted into the four-year veterinary medical program first.<br />

Upon acceptance, the Graduate <strong>St</strong>udies Program will review<br />

the student for acceptance into the dual degree program.<br />

Application Process<br />

As a member of the Association of American Veterinary<br />

Medical Colleges (AAVMC) the School of Veterinary<br />

Medicine participates in the AAVMC’s centralized Veterinary<br />

Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). Aspiring<br />

veterinary medical students have the option of applying to<br />

the August 2014 or January 2015 entering class through the<br />

VMCAS 2014 application cycle. Candidates who intend to<br />

apply to veterinary schools through VMCAS can include <strong>St</strong>.<br />

George’s <strong>University</strong> as a designated school and follow the<br />

instructions for the SGU supplemental application. To learn<br />

Applicants who designate <strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> on the<br />

electronic VMCAS application are required to complete a<br />

supplemental application. This supplemental application<br />

consists of several questions and an essay and is to be<br />

completed following submission of the VMCAS application.<br />

There is no additional application fee for the supplemental<br />

application.<br />

If you are not applying through VMCAS, we encourage you<br />

to apply online and track your application status through<br />

Self-Service Admission. As an alternative, you can still<br />

download a paper copy to print and complete manually.<br />

All documents must be in English or must have a certified<br />

English translation attached and must be originals or<br />

certified copies. In addition to the completed application,<br />

the following are required:<br />

1. Application fee: $50 US for preveterinary medical and<br />

veterinary medical sciences.<br />

2. Passport-sized photograph with your name and birth<br />

date printed on the back.<br />

3. For North American applicants: <strong>St</strong>andardized<br />

Examination scores from the Graduate Examination<br />

Record (GRE) or the Medical College Admission Test<br />

(MCAT).<br />

4. Official secondary school transcripts.<br />

5. Undergraduate coursework transcripts must be<br />

submitted by the undergraduate institution.<br />

6. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores if English is not your<br />

principal language.<br />

7. Two letters of recommendation. In order of importance to<br />

the Committee on Admission, these are the categories:<br />

a. A veterinarian with whom you have worked<br />

b. A university professor (or, for those applying for the<br />

preveterinary program, a teacher)<br />
