Commonwealth Jubilee Scholarship Program<br />
The Commonwealth Jubilee Scholarship Program,<br />
commemorating the 60 years of the Queen’s reign as<br />
the Head of the Commonwealth of Nations, provides for<br />
60 full-tuition scholarships to be awarded to citizens of<br />
Commonwealth nations. Ten scholarships are available<br />
for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students in the School<br />
of Veterinary Medicine. These scholarships are designed<br />
to train veterinary surgeons who will be well equipped to<br />
make a significant contribution to the practice of veterinary<br />
medicine in disadvantaged Commonwealth countries.<br />
to Apply: A prospective scholarship candidate must<br />
be a resident citizen of a Commonwealth country, have<br />
been accepted to <strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong>, and submit an<br />
essay detailing how this award will ultimately benefit the<br />
development of his/her country. The application is available<br />
at sgu.edu/jubilee. The scholarship application and essay<br />
must be submitted by the following deadlines:<br />
• The deadline for the August class is June 1<br />
• The deadline for the January class is November 1<br />
A Commonwealth Jubilee Scholarship Committee<br />
established by the <strong>University</strong> awards the scholarships.<br />
The scholarship funds tuition only. <strong>St</strong>udents must have a<br />
financial plan in place to fund living and travel expenses<br />
through their own personal resources or alternative<br />
funding sources.<br />

grenadian Scholarships<br />
Two scholarships are awarded annually to Grenadian<br />
citizens. Applicants must have been accepted into the<br />
<strong>University</strong> by the Committee on Admission and nominated<br />
by the scholarship selection panel. One of the scholarships<br />
is awarded by the Grenadian government and the other is<br />
selected by the Office of Financial Aid. The scholarships<br />
provide full tuition and administrative fees.<br />

Scholarship Opportunities for<br />
Upperclassmen <strong>St</strong>udents<br />
A prospective Upperclassman award candidate must<br />
have completed Term 1 and 2, have achieved academic<br />
excellence and demonstrate financial need. Determinations<br />
are made twice yearly after registration in the spring and<br />
fall. Awards are for one term only, and students can apply<br />
each term. For instructions on how to apply for any of the<br />
upperclassman scholarship programs listed below, contact<br />

Morris Alpert Scholarships<br />
This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Morris<br />
Alpert, MD, the first Dean of Kingstown Medical College.<br />
Each year several partial tuition scholarships will be<br />
awarded to upperclassmen in Terms 3 through 10 who have<br />
achieved academic excellence and have participated in<br />
extracurricular or community service during their first years<br />
of medical school. Recipients of these awards must also<br />
demonstrate financial need and meet the high moral and<br />
ethical standards set by Dr. Alpert for his students during<br />
his tenure on the faculty of <strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong>.<br />
William M. McCord Scholarship<br />
This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of William M.<br />
McCord, MD, a leader in the field of medical education in the<br />
United <strong>St</strong>ates who had a major impact on the development of<br />
<strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> School of Medicine’s clinical program.<br />
These partial tuition scholarships are awarded to students who<br />
withdraw from a term due to compelling personal reasons, and<br />
when they return to resume their studies suffer undue financial<br />
hardships which affect their ability to pay for their education.<br />
Loan Programs<br />
United <strong>St</strong>ates Citizens or Permanent Residents<br />
US Federal <strong>St</strong>udent Loans<br />
<strong>St</strong>. George’s <strong>University</strong> participates in the William D. Ford<br />
Federal Direct Loan Program. These loans are available to<br />
students in the School of Veterinary Medicine.<br />
The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program consists<br />
of the Federal Direct Unsubsidized <strong>St</strong>afford Loan and<br />
Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. The maximum loan<br />
