Rosé Avengers & Producers’ Annual ‘Pink Out! SF’
Premium Rosé Continues Double-Digit Growth, Outperforming
Overall Table Wine Market, Reports The Nielsen Company
Rosé Avengers & Producers (RAP) announced that its signature
annual tasting event, PINK OUT! SF will be held on Tuesday, May 11.
The celebration will take place at Butterfly restaurant on the Embarcadero
at Pier 33. Overlooking San Francisco Bay, the 6th annual fine
rosé tasting will feature 40 participating wineries pouring still and
sparkling rosés from around the world, with many of the winemakers
who craft them in attendance. Butterfly’s executive chef and owner
Robert Lam will create rosé-inspired Pan-Asian appetizers from
sustainably and organically sourced ingredients.
PINK OUT! SF underscores the continued ascendancy of the $8
and above rosé category. According to The Nielsen Company,
premium rosé table wines outpaced the market, growing at doubledigit
levels on both dollars and volume in 2009. Premium Rosé wines
grew by 13.5% on dollars, and 12.8% on volume, 5 times faster on
dollars and 12 times faster on volume than the overall Table Wine
category. The Table Wine category grew at 2.6% on dollars, and just
0.9% on volume (Total U.S. Food, Drug, and Major Liquor Markets,
52 weeks ending 12/12/09).
“Rosé wines continue to rise in popularity and maturity,” said
Danny Brager, vice president, group client director, Beverage Alcohol,
The Nielsen Company. “At Nielsen, we measure what consumers
watch and what consumers buy and we find that consumers are
giving rosé wine more attention as they make their wine selections,
while retailers are giving rosés more prominence among their offerings.”
Additionally, while the overall Table Wine category has an average
price of $6.10 for an equivalent 750 ml package size, the Premium
Rosé category's average price is $10.17 -- a 67% premium. "That's
good for retailers looking for a trade up option in this time of trading
down," said Brager.
From its inaugural event in 2005, PINK OUT! tastings have drawn
full house crowds. This year is expected to sell-out in advance once
again. The trade and media portion runs 3:30 to 6 p.m. The consumer
tasting is open 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Consumer tickets are $35 in advance
online only at www.rapwine.com, and $45 at the door if available.
