The guidance and counseling program is intended to be an integral part of<br />

the school’s total educational program. It is developmental by design and<br />

includes activities organized and implemented by certified professional school<br />

counselors with the support of teachers, administrators, students and parents.<br />

The guidance and counseling program includes:<br />

A. Guidance curriculum which utilizes classroom and group<br />

activities to provide students with knowledge of normal growth<br />

and development and to promote positive mental health and to<br />

assist in the development of life skills.<br />

B. Individual planning activities, which help students manage their<br />

own learning as well as their personal and career development.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s will evaluate their educational, occupational and<br />

personal goals and plans through individual and group activities.<br />

C. Responsive service activities include individual counseling,<br />

support group counseling, and consultation with parents,<br />

teachers and related community resources.<br />

D. System support is management of the total guidance program.<br />

Activities include professional development, research and<br />

evaluation, use of an advisory committee and program planning<br />

and operations.<br />

E. Class Changes – There will be NO class changes after the<br />

second week of the semester. In addition, no class will be<br />

dropped after the second week of the semester without the<br />

student receiving an “F” in that class.<br />

ACT TESTING DATES<br />

The ACT is a required test for admission to most colleges in the Midwest.<br />

Application packets, including practice tests, are available in the counselors<br />

office. The test dates and deadline dates are listed below:<br />

SAT TESTING<br />

The SAT I and SAT II are college entrance tests used by many Eastern<br />

colleges as well as some private colleges and universities. It is open to juniors<br />

and seniors. More information and application packets are available in the<br />

counselors office.<br />
