go home with another student. If this is the case, it will be your<br />

responsibility as a parent to contact your child’s school either in<br />

written form or by telephone to make arrangements and give<br />

permission. The school in turn will provide your child with a “Bus<br />

Pass” which they must give to the bus driver.<br />

2. If a student’s transportation privileges have been suspended or<br />

revoked, the student is responsible for finding alternative means of<br />

transportation to and from school. <strong>Student</strong>s who do not find other<br />

means of transportation and do not attend school will be considered<br />

truant.<br />

3. If a student has been suspended from school, his transportation<br />

privileges are also suspended.<br />

4. District vehicles carrying students will be considered extensions of<br />

the school environment. Any student whose conduct on district<br />

transportation is improper or jeopardizes the safety of other students<br />

may be suspended from district transportation services and may be<br />

disciplined in accordance with district policy. Uniform rules of<br />

conduct and disciplinary measures will be enforced. <strong>Student</strong>s with<br />

disabilities will be disciplined according to law.<br />

BUS EVACUATION DRILLS<br />

Emergency evacuation drills on school buses are required for all students in<br />

kindergarten through twelfth grade at least once per semester. The first drill<br />

must be completed prior to October 31.<br />

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS SCHOOL CANCELLATION<br />

1. Should it become necessary to close any or all of the schools of the<br />

district by reason of weather or other emergencies, the superintendent<br />

may order the closing of any school so affected. Notification of such<br />

closings will be given to the staff, students, and public under a plan of<br />

notification developed by the superintendent and approved by the Board<br />

of Education. Using the district’s automated school messaging system,<br />

parents who have provided the district with their phone number will be<br />

notified of any school cancellation.<br />

2. The superintendent will also have the authority to delay the opening of<br />

any or all schools by one (1) hour or to dismiss them early because of<br />

weather conditions and other emergencies. Parents who are not<br />

normally home during the school day must notify the school in writing<br />

to advise where their child(ren) are to be sent in the event of an early<br />

closing.<br />

3. The superintendent encourages the families to watch local television<br />

stations for notification of school closings due to inclement weather.<br />

The information will be given on KOAM-TV (Channel 7), KSYN-TV<br />

(Channel 16), KODE-TV (Channel <strong>12</strong>).<br />

4. If school is canceled, all K-8 activities and/or functions will be canceled.<br />

Events may also be canceled if the weather forecast or bad weather<br />

conditions seem eminent.<br />
