ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY<br />

CITIZENSHIP<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s must be a credible citizen. Credible school citizens are those<br />

students whose conduct both in and out of school will not reflect discredit upon<br />

themselves or their school.<br />

ACADEMICS<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s must be currently enrolled in and regularly attending courses that<br />

offer a minimum of 3.5 units of credit (this normally is seven courses)<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s must have earned 3.5 units of credit the preceding semester or up<br />

to 1 credit earned or completed after the close of the semester or in summer<br />

school to fulfill this requirement. Credits earned or completed after the close of<br />

the semester or in summer school may fulfill this requirement if they are<br />

obtained in a core subject area or an elective credit used for remediation (THIS<br />

IS A NEW MSHSAA GUIDELINE).<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s beginning the ninth grade must have been promoted at the close<br />

of the previous school year.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s must be making satisfactory progress toward graduation as<br />

determined by their local school’s policies.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s should not drop courses without first consulting with the school<br />

principal or the athletic director to determine whether it will affect their<br />

eligibility.<br />

ATTENDANCE<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s must be in attendance on the day of an activity, unless prior<br />

notification for an excused absence is obtained through the building principal.<br />

A student having an unexcused absence on a given day, will not be eligible to<br />

participate in an interscholastic contest/event until he/she has attended a full<br />

day of classes (or has an excused absence from class) without an unexcused<br />

absence.<br />

DISCIPLINE<br />

Any student who receives formal disciplinary actions by a building<br />

administrator or their designee shall be ineligible to participate in all activities<br />

for the duration of their formal disciplinary proceedings.<br />

CO-CURRICULAR ELIGIBILITY ADDITIONAL STANDARDS<br />

No performance(s) or activity(s) - band/speech/art - may constitute more<br />

than one (1) daily grade.<br />

In the event of two (2) or more co-curricular performances or activities<br />

occur on the same date, or time, the sponsors/coaches shall meet with the<br />

building administrator to determine the performance/activity the student will<br />

attend.<br />

When two (2) or more performances/activities occur simultaneously the<br />

student’s grade will not be hindered for non-attendance, assuming the student<br />

has attended one (1) of the activities/performances.<br />

TRANSFERRING SCHOOLS<br />

If a student transfer schools and his/her parents do not move into the<br />

district of the new school, he/she will be ineligible for 365 days, unless he/she<br />

meets one of the exceptions listed in the Missouri State High School Athletic<br />

Association Residence and Transfer Rules.<br />
