ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR MCDONALD<br />
COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL<br />
STUDENT ENROLLMENT<br />
A student must attend 10 days of school, from the date of enrollment, to<br />
become a certified student of <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>County</strong> High School.<br />
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE<br />
The <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>County</strong> High School is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s should arrive at school by 8:15 and be in class by 8:20 a.m. <strong>Student</strong>s<br />
are not allowed to sit in their cars upon arrival at school. <strong>Student</strong>s are not<br />
allowed in the gymnasium after school, unless appropriate supervision is<br />
provided by a member of the faculty. All students are expected to attend<br />
school regularly and be on time for classes in order to benefit from the<br />
instructional programs and to develop habits of punctuality, self-discipline and<br />
responsibility.<br />
CLASSROOM ATTENDANCE<br />
Punctuality and consistency are a part of each student’s training in school.<br />
When sickness or obligation to the student’s family necessitates his/her<br />
absence, this should be explained to the office with a phone call from the<br />
parents. If the absence is not reported by phone, a note from the parents<br />
explaining the absence must accompany the student upon his/her return to<br />
school. All students should report to the attendance office to leave his/her note<br />
to enable the student to be placed on the excused absence list. NOTES<br />
RECEIVED AFTER 48 HOURS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.<br />
I. Absenteeism<br />
A. When a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to<br />
have his/her parent or guardian notify the attendance office as<br />
early as possible each day of the absence. The phone number of<br />
the attendance office is 845-3324. If there is not a telephone in<br />
the home, a note from the parent or guardian will be accepted<br />
upon returning to school. A note or call from a parent or<br />
guardian must come within 48 hours following the absence.<br />
Attendance will have a definite effect on scholastic achievement<br />
and recorded grades. Homework assignments may be requested<br />
through the counselor’s office.<br />
B. <strong>Student</strong>s are not to leave the campus for any reason without<br />
checking out through the asst.-principal’s office. <strong>Student</strong>s who<br />
do leave class or the campus without first checking out will be<br />
counted as truant and the appropriate punishments will follow.<br />
Parents/guardians may check their student(s) out during the<br />
school day when they personally come into the attendance office<br />
to check out the student. Phone calls will be accepted only if an<br />
emergency exists. This must be followed by a parent/guardian<br />
clarification with the assistant.-principal. A parent/guardian<br />
may designate a responsible person to pick up their student<br />
when prior arrangements are made with the attendance office.<br />
C. When parents come to pick up a student, they should report<br />
directly to the attendance office and a “Permit to Leave<br />
Building” will be sent to the student. Parents/Guardians should<br />
