BENEFIT:<br />
Providing a mechanism that assists the public enhance the durability of the built environment<br />
may lessen the local government’s risk during disasters.<br />

ACTIVITY:<br />
a) Offer mitigation audits to homes, businesses, and local government buildings. (1 points)<br />
b) Create an education campaign for mitigation (shelters point out features with signs, etc.) (1<br />
points)<br />
APPROACH:<br />
Emergency Management conducts free or low cost audits of buildings to identify opportunities<br />
for mitigation. Community knowledge of mitigation features is strengthened through<br />
educational material, as well as drawing attention to features present at local shelters.<br />
SUGGESTED DOCUMENTATION:<br />
a) Provide details of building audit program.<br />
b) Submit elements of education campaign including advertisements for courses, course<br />
agendas, or demonstration activities at local shelters.<br />
BENEFIT:<br />
Providing outreach to the local community may assist with actual implementation of disaster<br />
mitigation within the local built environment.<br />
