Lead by Example<br />

Credit 1: Provide green, affordable housing to the community.<br />

REQUIREMENTS<br />

a) Construct/renovate green buildings. (1 points per living unit, maximum 20 points)<br />

APPROACH:<br />

New affordable housing units should be constructed to the FGBC green home standard in order<br />

to score points. Renovated units should score at least 150 points on the Florida Green Home<br />

Standard or 75% of other applicable green standard.<br />

SUGGESTED DOCUMENTATION:<br />

Submit copies of Green Home Standard Certificates, or completed Green Home Checklists for<br />

renovated units.<br />

BENEFIT:<br />

Certified green homes not only help with the local government’s environmental goals, but also<br />

provide healthy, efficient, and durable living environments for the occupants.<br />

Credit 2: Increase the affordability of affordable housing.<br />

ACTIVITY:<br />

a) Affordable housing constructed by city/county and other parties mandated green. (1 points)<br />

b) Offer incentives for construction of green affordable housing. (1 points)<br />

c) Offer incentives for location efficient affordable housing. (1 points)<br />

APPROACH:<br />

Require that all new affordable housing constructed within the city/county be built to an existing<br />

green standard. Alternatively, offer an incentive for the construction of green and/or location<br />

efficient housing. Example incentives include tax incentives, permitting incentives or other<br />

incentives that equate to at least $300 per housing unit.<br />

Submit copy of mandate/ordinance/incentive program.<br />
