ACTIVITY:
a) Operate local government alternative fueling station. (1 points)
b) Earn waste reduction credit through the production of clean-burning fuels. (1 points)
APPROACH:
If a local government fleet operates on alternative fuel, operate and maintain a refueling station.
County governments get waste reduction credits for using yard clippings, clean wood waste, or
paper waste as feedstocks for the production of clean-burning fuels such as ethanol.
SUGGESTED DOCUMENTATION:
Submit location of station, and fuel type. Describe clean-burning fuel production feedstock and
process.
BENEFIT:
Alternative fuels conserve resources and minimize vehicular emissions to the atmosphere.

Credit 3: Minimize local government energy use.
ACTIVITY:
a) Use LED traffic lights. (1 points)
b) Utilize solar or other energy efficient streetlights. (1 points)
c) Operate a Rebuild America program for the local government. (1 points)
APPROACH:
Develop a plan for replacing conventional traffic and streetlights with energy efficient models.
Organize a constituency to become a Department of Energy Rebuild America partnership.
SUGGESTED DOCUMENTATION:
a-b) Submit details of light replacement plan, or dates that lights were retrofitted to more
efficient technology.
d) Provide a list of partners in the program.
BENEFIT:
Significant savings can be achieved by upgrading various light fixtures to more efficient models.
Rebuild America partnerships work towards energy efficient improvements in the local
government sector.
