cessation of advertising: The GRA
requires one month prior notice, in
writing, if you wish to cease regular
advertising in the GRA’s Board
Journal. This is to be sent direct to the
Authority at PO Box 250, Albion,

subsequent Journals.

The Board has recently approved
the payment of a freight rebate of $75
per greyhound to owners/trainers in the
Mackay and Cairns region to assist
them to have greyhounds transported to
their area.
A press release can be located on
the GRA website.
It is widely known many of the
greyhounds racing in those areas are
giveaways or are sent to the area by
SEQ owners who recognise the
greyhounds will not match up to city
class.
Many of the owners or the persons
giving greyhounds away baulk at the
costs associated with freighting the
dogs to country areas.
The Authority is keen to ensure
these dogs are given a second chance

and there be a reduction in the
impediments to ensure there are
sufficient greyhounds in the Cairns and
Mackay areas sufficient to fill a
minimum six race program.
The issue may be greater than just
greyhounds being available, as we are
aware both are major growth areas, and
it may be that the urban sprawl may be
forcing greyhound trainers out.
But we will continue to monitor the
situation and review the rebate after
June 30 to judge its success.
We continue to keep the situation
with Mackay under review.
I thank all of those participants who
wrote to the Board regarding the Club
and I can assure you the board
considered each of the submissions
made.
GREYHOUND adoption in England is huge.
In fact, the Retired Greyhound Trust reports that 3900 greyhounds were rehomed
in 2006, an all time record and more than double the number of just five years ago.
The British Greyhound Racing Board allocates almost $A5 million each year for
national marketing and promotion to get the message across that greyhounds make
great pets.
Amazingly black greyhounds are least popular among those adopting greyhounds
in the UK. And male greyhounds are not as popular for adoption as females.
RENEWAL
APPLICATIONS
We will be posting applications to renew licences the first week of May.
Please be aware that your fully completed application (back and front) together
with renewal fee should be lodged with the Authority no later than June 1
Please be aware that a new application needs to be completed if you wish to upgrade
from a Class 3 to Class 2 or Class 2 to Class 1.
(Ticking a box on the renewal application is insufficient).
COMPLETION

It would be greatly appreciated if when lodging any form with us that it is completed,
please answer all the questions and please do not forget your signature.
CHANGE
OF TRAINER
Please read this form before completing it.
We receive forms telling us the greyhound has come into the kennels and on the
same form telling us the greyhound has left the kennels.
You canÆt have a greyhound in and out on the one form.
The person telling us the greyhound has left their kennels or they no longer train the
greyhound must fill in one form and the person telling us the greyhound has come into
their kennel or they now train the greyhound must fill in one form.
In other words we expect to receive two forms when a greyhound moves from one
kennel to another or from one trainer to another trainer or from an owner to a trainer,
or vice versa.
The GRA has recently undertaken a
review of the race programming dates
for the upcoming financial year, which
it is required to lodge with Queensland
Race Product Company Limited and
UNiTAB.
We have applied for and been
granted seven Saturday afternoon
racing dates for the next financial year
in Mackay.
These will not clash with events
taking place at Mackay's horse racing
track, nor with the Saturday meetings
held by the Rockhampton Club.
It is hoped these may promote more
interest in greyhound racing in the
region and increase the turnover and
income earned on the tote by the Club.
The Board has received and
considered a first draft of the
Constitution of the new corporate
control body.
Further discussions have taken place
with the solicitors and it is hoped a
draft will be circulated for discussion
to the Clubs and others by the end of
May.
In anticipation of the new corporate
identity, the GRA has set aside in its
budget for the next financial year,
funds to re-brand Greyhound Racing in
Queensland and to promote the new
entity.
IT'S ON AGAIN
GOLFERS in the greyhound
industry are reminded that the annual
State of Origin challenge is fast looming.
The four-ball ambrose event will be
held at Windaroo Golf Club on June 8.
As usual it is 8.30am for a 9am shotgun
start.
Cost will be $60 which includes the
18 holes, motorized cart and lunch.

Tony said players without a full team
can be catered for.

When nominating for special
events e.g. Novice, Time Trial, Young
Guns etc, and it is the only event you
wish your greyhound to be considered
for please ensure you advise or state
ONLY e.g. Novice Only, Time Trial
only.
Should you not indicate ONLY, the
grading panel will then consider and
include you in other events should your
greyhound be eligible to compete in
them.
