Aviation Maintenance Technology<br />

This FAA-approved program provides the hands-on experience to service, repair and<br />

overhaul reciprocating and turbine engines and components, powerplant control systems,<br />

instrumentation, and induction and exhaust systems.<br />

To prepare for both the FAA’s Airframe and Powerplant licenses, students must complete<br />

five semesters (total of 1,910 hours). Prerequisites: a keen interest in aviation, an aptitude for<br />

hands-on tasks, an ability to follow directions, and an inclination to pay careful attention<br />

to details. Call (631) 667-6000 x320 for pre-entrance evaluation.<br />

Semesters begin September, January and May. Offered at Tech’s Aviation Facility at<br />

Republic Airport in Farmingdale. Financial aid/payment plans available to those who<br />

qualify, see page 43 or call (631) 261-3600, x214.<br />

Tuition includes basic tools for each curriculum area, books, and testing for the<br />

Designated Mechanic Exam (DME). Students must purchase coveralls with long sleeves<br />

and steel-toed boots (approx. $200). FAA exams extra: $150 each. Waiver for approved<br />

military training (DD214) if curriculum taken at <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Suffolk</strong> BOCES.<br />

Day-time: General (400 hrs, 67 sessions) M-F, 8am–2:30pm 9/9-12/16<br />

Airframe II (383 hrs, 64 sessions) M-F, 8am–2:30pm 9/9-12/11<br />

Powerplant II (378 hrs, 63 sessions) M-F, 8am–2:30pm 9/9-12/10<br />

Evenings: M-Th, 6–10 pm, plus alternating Saturdays 8am–2:30pm<br />
