EKG/Monitor Technician<br />

Satisfactory completion of this course<br />

will help prepare you to work as an<br />

entry level EKG or monitor technician<br />

in hospitals, clinics, health-related facilities<br />

and physicians offices. Learn to identify<br />

normal and pathologic heart rhythms and<br />

collect diagnostic quality recordings of the<br />

heart’s electrical and mechanical activity. You<br />

will also learn to monitor a patient’s cardiac<br />

function in a critical care or emergency room<br />

setting. Gain the knowledge and skills to<br />

assist doctors and nurses by recognizing and<br />

reporting changes in a patient’s heart function.<br />

The curriculum includes cardiac anatomy and<br />

physiology, 12 lead and rhythm strip analysis,<br />

lead placement and 12 lead EKG. Rhythm<br />

strip practice will enhance learning and clinical<br />

Phlebotomy<br />

Designed for the health care worker<br />

who is interested in expanding his/<br />

her technical skills to become more<br />

diversified. Learn proper blood collection<br />

techniques and the preparation and proper<br />

handling of blood specimens. Study the<br />

anatomy and physiology of the circulatory<br />

system, aseptic technique and infection control<br />

procedures. Positive communication techniques,<br />

medical ethics and safety procedures will be<br />

stressed. Supervised laboratory practice using<br />

mannequin arms and artificial blood. Successful<br />

completion of this course will enable you to sit<br />

for the written portion of the National Center<br />

for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification<br />

examination. To obtain full certification,<br />

students must successfully complete a clinical<br />

component where they demonstrate a specified<br />

number of live capillary collections and<br />
