Course includes basic operating principles, procedures for tune-ups, water pumps and winterizing your motor. Covers 2 and 4 stroke theory, inboard and outboard engines. 14FMAR101A $345 9/9-12/9 MP/115 M 6:30PM-10PM 42hrs, 12 sessions Marine Stern Drive Study the theory of operation, basic maintenance, water pumps and winterizing procedures, practical problems, advance tear-down, rebuilding of outdrive, and engine troubleshooting. 14FMAR102A $345 9/11-12/4 MP/115 W 6:30PM-10PM 42hrs, 12 sessions Marine Technical Specialist Get prepared for employment opportunities in boat yards, marinas, and engine repair facilities. Courses meet two nights/week (one for theory, one for lab work). Tech offers two program levels. Successfully completing both programs completes your technical education and may lead to increased salary opportunities. A basic set of hand tools, multi-meter and diagnostic tools are the student’s responsibility. A supply list will be provided per module and is available at www.wilsontech.org/marine. All classes meet at Manor Plains campus, room 211/215. Marine Operators Certificate: Complete the six classes for this program in nine months. Graduates can obtain valuable industry-recognized certificates attesting to their skills including Apprenticeship Boat Bottom Painting Certificate and Forklift/ Strap Lift Certificate. Cost of tools for Part I is approximately $1,000. All classes are 12 sessions. Marina Operations: Module I This class is a MUST for anyone entering or currently working in the marine industry. Learn excellent customer service skills, how to be a service writer and gain an overview of the marina as a business. Students will earn their Apprentice Boat Bottom Painting and Forklift/Strap certificates. 14FMTS101A $359 9/10-10/24 Tu & Th 6PM-9:30PM 42hrs Engine Technology I: Module II This module covers the theory of two and four stroke internal combustion engines for both outboard and inboard engines with modern computer engine controls. Cooling systems will also be covered. 14FMTS102A $359 10/29-12/12 Tu & Th 6PM-9:30PM 42hrs Boatyard Operations/Internship Final module for Part 1. Spend 80 hours at a local boat yard or marina to practice hauling and launching, blocking, bottom painting, fork and travel lift training. 14FMTS106A $425, dates/times/location vary, no classroom meeting. Marine Technology Certificate: (Prerequisite: Marine Operators Certificate or marine trade experience) Take six classes for this second certificate program which can be completed in nine months to gain additional expertise. The program will help prepare you to take the certification tests, which will be given at the end of the classes, from these engine manufacturers: Yamaha, Evinrude and/ or Mercury. To enhance employment opportunities, successful graduates of the program will be well-positioned to seek additional certifications from the American Boat & Yachting Council or the National Marine Electronics Association. The instructor will provide information about the additional preparation required for these certifications. Cost of tools for Part II is approximately $1000. All classes are 12 sessions. Ignition Systems: Module I Gain in-depth information on how modern ignitions systems work. Learn electronic ignition theory including capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) and how to troubleshoot using state-of-the-art test equipment. 14FMTS107A $360 9/10-10/24 Tu & Th 6PM-9:30PM 42hrs Electronic Fuel Injection: Module II Gain a thorough understanding of computerized electronic and direct injection engine operating systems. Interior Design & Decorating Certificate Program This certificate program will prepare you with the fundamental skills and terminology to enter the field of interior design and decorating. Develop a solid foundation in computer drafting, evaluating business needs, design history, and the relationship between design, human performance, materials and the environment. To receive IDD certification, you must complete the 12 classes. Individual classes are open to those interested. Drafting/modeling skills are not a requirement for this certificate program, but strongly recommended. These skills are useful for employment in the field. See page 21 for AutoCAD classes. Upon successful completion of all modules, qualified students will get to participate in an unpaid 4-week internship with PYW Interiors, Miller Place. Interior Design & Decorating I Gain valuable insight into the design industry as you learn basic drafting, space planning, traffic flow, color theory and design concepts. Students must purchase supplies (approx $100) after the first class session to complete course project and other courses in this certificate program. Learn presentation techniques including sketching, rendering and drafting. Explore how space planning, dimensioning, textiles and finishes, furniture, lighting and ceiling plans can help solve a more complex design problem. 14FIDD108A $419 11/5-12/10 DH-C/18 Tu 6PM-10PM 24hrs, 6 sessions Business Foundation I Learn the best practices for a business in this high-paced field! We’ll cover sales techniques and problem solving basics relevant to projects large and small. Learn how and where the top designers purchase for their clients.
