63 Poisons, drugs or medicine<br />
63.1 A poison, drug or medicine which is a narcotic substance shall not be lodged for<br />
carriage by post nor carried by post.<br />
63.2 If the article is one to which section 90T of the Act applies being an article reasonably<br />
believed to consist of, or contain, certain drugs or other chemical compounds, then the<br />
article will be dealt according to that section.<br />
63.3 A poison, drug or medicine which is also an infectious perishable or a non-infectious<br />
perishable biological substance may be lodged for carriage by post in accordance<br />
with clause 64 provided however that an infectious perishable biological substance<br />
may not be lodged for international carriage.<br />
63.4 A poison, drug or medicine which is not an infectious perishable biological substance<br />
may be carried by international carriage in accordance with clause 64 provided<br />
however that if carriage of the article is prohibited in a country of transit or destination<br />
the article will not be carried.<br />
63.5 A poison, drug or medicine which is, or is to be, lawfully prescribed for therapeutic<br />
purposes by a qualified medical practitioner, dentist or veterinary surgeon, may be<br />
lodged and carried by post providing:<br />
63.5.1 it is addressed for delivery to a qualified medical practitioner, dentist,<br />
veterinary surgeon, pharmacist, regulatory body, hospital or clinic, or to a<br />
person for whose therapeutic benefit the substance has been lawfully<br />
prescribed by a qualified medical practitioner, dentist or veterinary surgeon;<br />
63.5.2 it does not contain a quantity of any poison, drug or medicine which exceeds<br />
the maximum quantity which may be dispensed at any one time; and<br />
63.5.3 it is packaged and presented in the manner prescribed in the current<br />
Technical Instructions of the Civil Aviation Organisation as reflected in the IATA<br />
Dangerous Goods Regulations.<br />
63.6 A poison, drug or medicine which is an analytical reference standard sample for the<br />
use of a laboratory involved in research or maintenance of public health may be<br />
lodged outside <strong>Australia</strong> for delivery within <strong>Australia</strong> providing:<br />
63.6.1 it is addressed to a recognised laboratory;<br />
63.6.2 it does not contain more than 100 milligrams of that substance; and<br />
63.6.3 it is packaged and presented in the manner prescribed in the current<br />
Technical Instructions of the Civil Aviation Organisation as reflected in the IATA<br />
Dangerous Goods Regulations.<br />
64 Limited classes of dangerous goods which may be carried<br />
64.1 Dangerous goods specified in clauses 64.2 to 64.3 inclusive, may be lodged and<br />
carried by post providing they are properly packed and comply with such terms and<br />
conditions governing their carriage.<br />
64.2 Infectious perishable biological substances which are dangerous goods may be<br />
lodged and carried by post within <strong>Australia</strong> providing:<br />
64.2.1 an article containing such a substance is:<br />
<strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> <strong>Terms</strong> and <strong>Conditions</strong> 48
