change.
Islington Council is establishing a Youth Council giving young people in
Islington the opportunity to make themselves heard and share their views
with the Council and its partners on issues that affect all children and
young people. The Youth Council will also work to help young people to
tell the Council where and how money should be spent on their services.
Children looked after will be able to apply for youth councillor positions.
The Children’s Active Involvement Service and Children’s In Care Council
will work with the Youth Council to ensure that the voices and views of
children looked after are fully represented in the work of the Youth
Council.
f. To improve participation services to accommodate the more diverse
range of children looked after and care leavers.
We will review our Children’s Active Involvement Service to ensure we
reach and engage a wide range of young people.
We will act on the findings of the LILAC Inspection.
We will ensure that children looked after with additional needs arising from
their sexuality have their views heard and are supported through the
development of a Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) working
group. The creation of the group reflects the need to support and
effectively meet the needs of looked after young people who are LBGT or
who are dealing with issues of sexual identity. The group will ensure that
services are inclusive and meet the needs of LGBT young people.
g. To systematically gather information from all young people leaving
care to inform our service improvement plans.
We will develop a systematic process to gather feedback from young
people about their care experiences at the point when they will be exiting
care to ensure that the Council can learn from their experiences at all
stages of their care journey and implement this in improvement planning.
