Province – from far and near - came together. We
had reasons to thank God and reasons to celebrate -
for the Lord had blessed Jamshedpur Diocese and
the Province with 9 newly-ordained priests this year:
Frs. Alwyn Rodrigues, Bipin Kujur, Biranchi
Soreng, Ignatius Dungdung, Michael
Fernandes, Niranjan Minj, Ranjit Bilung, Tony
John, Vincent Vinod Fernandes; with the longcommitted-life
of our four Jubilarians, Fr. Ed
Somy Mannoor gave a pithy thumb-nail sketch of
each of them and their claim to fame, not forgetting
George Fernandes at the altar in his first year as
Superior of XL community, S Anthony Raj in his
second year as Odisha Mission Superior, and the
main celebrant, Fr. Michael Thanaraj, in his fifth
year as Provincial with “promises to keep and miles
to go before he sleeps …”
Fr. Prabhu Hall provided a somber ambience. The
venue was tastefully decorated in subdued tones.
While outside temperatures read 45 degrees
Celsius, it was just “cool, cool, 'thanda', 'thanda'” in
Prabhu Hall when Emile Coelho with his band of
four led us through with a hymn from the St. Louis
Jesuits “ Take, Lord, receive …”. This set the mood
for S Anthony Raj to touch on the whole aspect of
“promises”- the theme of the day “Promises to
Keep”. In the congregation were the relatives of
those called to take Final Vows, and, keeping them
in mind, the Provincial spoke endearingly in Hindi.
He dwelt on the whole meaning of this solemn
moment of their brother being incorporated into the
McGrath leading the pack with 60 years in the
Priesthood followed by those who put in 25 years
like Frs. Gilbert Menezes, Oscar Horo and
Raphael Lakra and, of course, the icing on the
cake, our four brother Jesuits, Frs. Bernard Surin,
Polidor Kujur, Ranjeet Kindo and Sunil Lakra.

Society of Jesus through final vows so that they too
could become one with them.
All said and done, it was a fitting finale to days spent
together in evaluating the province and its various
ministries. As the strains of the final hymn to Our
Lady of the Way “Be with us, Mary, along the way,
guide every step we take” came to a close, a giant
chocolate cake was brought in and the four who had
pronounced their Final Vows were invited to cut the
cake as Emile led one and all in “ Tra-la laa ……
There was more to come as we trooped out into the
green lawns of XL that were laid out to make this
truly a night to remember.

17 May 2013: 'Dare to be Different'
We began our Get Together 2013, at
Sankhabhanga (Odisha). As soon as we reached,
we were welcomed by Victor Joseph, the
Coordinator of the apostolate. He briefed us about
the logistics of the place and accepted the role of
