Villa superior in the absence of our PCF. We numbered 27 scholastics this year.. Johnson Lakra during the Eucharist set the tone of the day by introducing us to the theme “Dare to be Different”. The day was scheduled for the various sessions by the different resource persons. It began with “Ignatian Spirituality” by Fr. Victor Joseph explaining its value in our life as Jesuits. Fr. Vinod Fernandes was ever willing to share his experience of Jesuit education of 'yesterday, today and tomorrow'. He briefed about the hallmarks of the Jesuit education and its implication in the world today. He shared his insights that he brought along from the International Colloquium on Jesuit Secondary Education (ICJSE) at Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. In the afternoon we had a Guest Speaker, Mr. Tony Castleton, (from XITE). He challenged the scholastics with his passionate and revolutionary talk. He expressed his views from a layman's perspective and asked all of us to be extraordinary in a simple way. In his talk he emphasized the importance of the 'Word of God' in religious and priestly life. In the evening the scholastics enjoyed the company of each other through volleyball game and interactive ice breaking sessions conducted by Alok. 18 May 2013: 'Audacity to Believe' The day began with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Vinod. He introduced us to the theme and explained the relevance of it in our life. The presence of scholastics in Loyola School, Sankhabhanga, brought life to the campus and the place resounded with the sound of laughter much to the delight of Victor Joseph. The Sisters of St. Anne's and the kitchen staff were there 24x7 at our service and providing us delicious meals. One couldn't imagine that they could work so hard in such steamy conditions. The meticulous planning of Mukti Clarence, Asutosh Pawan, Pascal Dhanwar, and Sanay Soreng made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Despite scorching sun outside the active participation of scholastics in various games doubled our joy of staying together. In the evening we enjoyed dancing together to popular Nagpuri tunes. 19 May 2013: 'Depth and Creativity' The day began with the spirit of gratitude to the Holy Spirit and invoking God the Father to guide and lead us to the depth of our being. Basil Sangha introduced the theme of the day and welcomed the Mass celebrants to lead us into prayer. Fr. Victor Joseph was the main celebrant assisted by Fr. Vinod and Mukti. Clarence. Mukti inspired all the scholastics by his homily calling us to be creative 06 JAMSHEDPUR JESUITS JUNE 2013
and have depth in whatever we do. The day was full of activities which made the scholastics enjoy the day to the fullest. It was really heart touching to see them shouting and yelling at one another during the baseball game. This shouting and yelling was nothing but an opportunity to come closer to one another. It was heartwarming to see all the scholastics enjoying one another's company without difference of senior or junior. The evening was spent together with lots of partysongs, 'shayries' and jokes that made the evening hour a memorable one. 20 May 2013: 'Be the Message' As the Villa 2013 came to an end the scholastics wanted to make 'masti' and enjoy the company of one another. The day began with a solemn Mass presided over by Fr. Vinod accompanied by Vincent Vinod who gave a soul stirring sermon. In his sermon he invited us 'to be the message' to the people. During the day the scholastics enjoyed a baseball match and, at the end, they danced together to the rhythm of Nagpuri hits. The scholastics wanted to contribute something memorable to the campus of Sankhabhanga. So in the evening, instead of playing, they worked in the teak garden and made a road for the hostel girls and Sisters which would provide easy access to the school. It was also the day of thanks giving for the services received from the community and the Sisters. In the evening there was a short thanks giving program. Mahesh Nayak proposed a vote of thanks to the community, St. Anne's Sisters and co-workers for their tireless efforts for making our stay comfortable, enjoyable and indeed a memorable one. Scholastic representatives presented them gifts as a token of love for their generosity and hospitality. On 21 May the scholastics travelled to XLRI, Jamshedpur, where the Provincial and Mission Superior addressed the Scholastics. The Villa came to an end with a sumptuous dinner hosted by XL Community. The grand success of the Villa 2013 is the fruit of Villa Coordinators' efficient networking which started 3 to 4 months prior to the Villa Days. Hats off and cheers to Mukti Clarence, Asutosh Pawan and Pascal Dhanwar for their meticulous planning and execution! --- Mukti Clarence SARVA MILAN SARVA MILAN meeting was held at Loyola School on the 12 May. Despite the heat, 40 college students came to the meeting at 4.00 pm. They came from every single college in the city; and that includes Xavier College. An interesting fact emerged when the media seemed to say year after year that the girls out shone the boys in the Board Exams but at this meeting the boys far outnumbered the girls. --- Emile Coelho NEWS FROM OUR HOUSES AND AROUND AMDA 20, 21 and 22 May were the days when the momentous events took place in Peter Claver Leprosy Hospital (CSWC), Amda. This was the day when the RCS (Re-constructive Surgery) took place in the newly set up Operation Theatre. In this first batch there were two women and four men with leprosy who went through the operation on their deformed legs and hands. The operation was conducted by the well-known DFIT, Chennai surgeon: Dr. Jacob Mathew, who was assisted by JUNE 2013 JAMSHEDPUR JESUITS 07
