Objectives: To determine the prevalence<br />

of Temporo-Mandibular Disorder (TMD)<br />

features in completely edentulous patients<br />

wearing dentures, and to compare this to<br />

the prevalence of TMD features in fully<br />

dentate patients.<br />

Methods: A questionnaire and clinical<br />

examination were used to assess<br />

473 patients. 182 of these were<br />

complete denture wearers attending<br />

the Prosthodontic clinic and 291 were<br />

fully dentate patients attending the<br />

Conservative Clinic for routine restorative<br />

dental treatment.<br />

Results: The prevalence of Temporo-<br />

Mandibular features in dentate patients<br />

(with the exception of crepitus sound<br />

of the joint) was significantly greater<br />

when compared to patients wearing<br />

complete dentures (29.2% and 14.3%,<br />
