Troubleshooting Use this chart to help you solve daily operational problems. If there is any problem you cannot solve, contact your <strong>JVC</strong> service center. General PROBLEM Power does not come on. Power is not supplied to the powered subwoofer. The remote control does not work. No sound. POSSIBLE CAUSE The power cord is not connected to an AC outlet or the center unit. The power cord of the subwoofer is not connected to an AC outlet. The system cable is not connected. It is too far from the center unit, or is not facing the center unit. There is something obstructing the remote sensor. The remote control is not aimed at the remote sensor on the center unit or components. The remote control mode selector is set at an incorrect position. The batteries are exhausted. The batteries have been inserted the wrong way round (+/–). The remote control is not set to operate the DVD player, tuner (FM/AM—MW), or sound setting. Sunlight is falling directly on the remote sensor. The remote control signals are not set correctly. The system cord and/or speaker cord is not connected. There is a short in the speaker cord. The audio cord is not connected to AUX IN and/or DIGITAL IN correctly. An incorrect source has been selected. Muting is on. The decode mode is not set correctly. SOLUTION Insert the plug into the socket. Press on the center unit or AUDIO on the remote control to turn off the system, insert the plug firmly into an AC outlet, and press on the center unit or AUDIO on the remote control again. Connect the system cable. Come closer to the center unit. (Operate the remote control within 7 m from the center unit.) Avoid any obstacles. (See page 19.) Aim the remote control at the remote sensor on each equipment you want to operate. Set it to the correct position. Replace the batteries. Insert the batteries correctly. For the DVD player, press DVD before you perform the operations. For the tuner, press FM/AM before you perform the operations. For using the sound setting buttons to adjust the output level of the speakers, press SOUND before you perform the operations. Cover the remote sensor from direct sunlight. Enter the correct manufacturer’s code. (See pages 20, 71.) Check the connection. Reconnect the speaker cord. Connect the cord correctly. (See page 14.) Select the correct source. (See page 22.) Press MUTING to cancel muting. Select the proper decode mode. (See page 25.) 73
PROBLEM Sound from one front speaker only. No sound from the center and/or rear speakers. The system does not work correctly. No picture is displayed on the TV screen. A disc cannot be played. A disc cannot be played and “0:00” is displayed on the display window. Video and audio are distorted. The picture does not fit the TV screen. No subtitle appears on the TV screen though you have selected as your initial subtitle language. Audio language is different from the one you have selected as your initial audio language. POSSIBLE CAUSE The speaker cord is not connected correctly. Left-right balance is not set properly. The speaker setting is incorrect. Lightning or electronic noise interferes with operation of the microcomputer. Immediately after beginning to heat the room, the system was moved to a cold location causing condensation to form inside. The video cord or SCART cable is not connected correctly. The RGB-Y/C selector is not set correctly. TV input selection is incorrect. The disc is not playable. The system’s and disc’s Region Code numbers are incompatible. Parental Lock is in use. The disc is inserted with its label and data sides inverted. The unplayable disc is inserted. The disc is scratched or dirty. A VCR is connected between the center unit and the TV. “STILL MODE” may not be set appropriately for the current disc. “MONITOR TYPE” is not set correctly. The TV is not set correctly. SOLUTION Connect the cord correctly. (See page 13.) Adjust the balance properly. (See pages 63 and 70.) Set the speaker setting properly. (See pages 64 and 70.) Switch the power off, and remove and re-insert the power plug in the socket. Switch the power off and leave the unit a few hours before switching the power on again. Connect the cord correctly. (See page 10.) Set it proper for the connection and your TV. (See page 10.) Select the correct input on the TV. Use a playable disc. (See page 6.) Replace the disc. (See page 6.) Enter password to change the parental level. (See page 68.) Insert the disc correctly. (See page 28.) Replace the disc. (See page 6.) Replace or clean the disc. (See page 72.) Connect the center unit and TV directly. Change “STILL MODE.” (See page 62.) Set the monitor type correctly. (See page 62.) Set the TV correctly. Some DVDs are programmed to always display no subtitle initially. If this happens, press SUBTITLE on the remote control after starting play. (See page 45.)
