- The History of Curaçao: - The <strong>in</strong>tention of<br />

this course is to give participants a sense of selfconfidence<br />

when be<strong>in</strong>g approached by a tourist.<br />

Topics <strong>in</strong>clude Curaçao’s colonial past,<br />

emancipation, the history of trade and <strong>in</strong>dustry,<br />

and<br />

<strong>in</strong>dependence.<br />

- Historical Build<strong>in</strong>gs of Curaçao: - The<br />

architecture of the island is discussed,<br />

emphasiz<strong>in</strong>g the conservation of the historical<br />

build<strong>in</strong>gs, the land, houses, and island<br />

monuments.<br />

- Geography of Curaçao: - The participants are<br />

taught about all aspects of the island, such as its climate, formation, population and <strong>in</strong>dustries.<br />

- <strong>Tourism</strong> and the Environment: - The participants get acqua<strong>in</strong>ted with local natural<br />

resources, how the government manages the environment and the importance of the<br />

environment <strong>in</strong> tourism.<br />

- Service Attitude: - This session educates participants about how to provide quality service to<br />

tourists and locals.<br />

- Tourist attractions: - Information about the attractions Curaçao has to offer are shown on<br />

video and subsequently discussed.<br />

- Flora & Fauna: - Included <strong>in</strong> this is the awareness about the herbs and natural resources the<br />

island has to offer.<br />

- Culture & Folklore / Culture differences: - This session focuses on the value of Curaçao’s<br />

culture and participants learn how to deal with and have respect for cultural differences.<br />

- Promotion of Curaçao / The <strong>in</strong>fluence of <strong>Tourism</strong> on the Economy:- Participants are<br />

educated about topics such as the market<strong>in</strong>g mix, the necessity to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> Curaçao’s market<br />

share and the cost <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> promot<strong>in</strong>g the island. They also learn about the affects of tourism<br />

on product development and how their personal enhancement and future depends on the<br />

economic development of tourism<br />

- Health Care and Etiquette: - Included <strong>in</strong> this is learn<strong>in</strong>g how to have a friendly attitude and<br />

how to deal with questions and compla<strong>in</strong>ts of clients dur<strong>in</strong>g office hours.<br />

- Practical Projects:- Participants work <strong>in</strong> teams to plan a project (which is approximately 2<br />

months) that serves as a community service to the island, or as an awareness campaign.<br />

- Exams: - the participants have a written test about the content of the Curaçao <strong>Good</strong>will Host<br />

program<br />
